Ionospheric LR Radio

From Reach

Ionopsheric LR (Long Range) Radios are the most common form of communication on Reach. This handheld radio works on a Hicap Battery (not included) that transmits a powerful signal at 62 GHz. This wavelength is almost perfectly matched to a low attrition bandwidth in the atmosphere, meaning that this radio can broadcast further than most others. However, due to Reach's unpredictable chemical clouds and atmosphere, transmission is never guaranteed. On a clear day, the signal can reflect off of the atmosphere and travel up to 100 km. When cloudy, during a Shredder storm, or during an EM quake, transmission can be drastically reduced, sometimes down to 100 m in the latter cases.
