Foundation
The foundation of RationalWiki (Or RW1) remains controversial. According to the LA times it was founded by one Doktor Liptus (or perhaps Rictus) , while others maintain that a shadowy figure known only as "Collin" was responsible. ("Collin" is presently believed to be being held at Guantanamo Bay where he was taken by the FBI immediately after the founding of RW2.)
In any event, all the original cabal members were ex-Conservapedia editors trained in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations who turned their talents against CP following their expulsion.
Shortly after its inception RW1, as it subsequently came to be called, it was discovered by the sinister Special Discussion Group at Conservapedia. They infiltrated its loose security and began counter-operations, this necessitated the elimination of the original forum and its re-creation as the open RW2.
Foundation and empire
The better-known RW2 stems from this date. The new wiki claims its objectives are:
- Analyzing and refuting the anti-science movement, ideas and people.
- Analyzing and refuting the full range of crank ideas.
- Explorations of authoritarianism and fundamentalism.
Many suspect however that not all ties have been cut between the two wikis, and that editors from both RW and CP continue to edit each others' wikis. Notwithstanding this, a number or RW editors have expressed a desire to have no further part of CP and simply to follow their own agenda.
Second foundation
Following server problems RW2.1 was created which was simply an updated RW2.
Patron saint.
Until recently its patron saint has been the goat, personified in Heidrun, but recently various species of other small animals have been proposed. This has led to some division amongst the RationalWikians with the more established followers of the goat fighting a minor skirmish against those few individuals who would introduce the ferret or the painfully obnoxious Long-eared Jerboa. This debate is known as The goat vs. jerboa controversies.
