| - | Kharivas was a [[Vindimkhos|Vindimkho]]. Although he completed the rigorous training with relatively little difficulty, he served only the required 100 years in the Seraphim army. Afterward, he promptly retired and entered into [[Lagana]]'s political circle. At first a virtual unknown, he quickly made a name for himself with his constant crusades for human rights. Though the Senate and most higher-class Seraphim disagreed with him and looked down upon him, he gained a great deal of support from humanity as well as unwealthy Seraphim.<br>

| - | He worked his way through the political ranks - from sheriff, to magistrate, to Senator, then, finally, to Governor. The highly-controversial election in which he became Governor saw him pitted against [[Rekhariz|Rekhariz of Adirinas]], whose wish to oppress and enslave humanity were a stark contrast to Kharivas' pleas for equality and freedom. Kharivas won, but was quickly deposed by the army, most of whom were still loyal to Rekhariz. He and Rekhariz were then both imprisoned in the [[Underworld]] - Kharivas below [[Kyrwen Lev]], Rekhariz below Lagana. Before either one could be released, the Seraphim Empire fell.<br>

| - | Some years later, Kharivas was visited by [[Vexx]]. Kharivas was able to make a deal with Vexx to get himself released, but exactly what that deal entailed is still unknown to this day. Kharivas built a city in the heart of Kyrwen Lev, where he knew he could never be found, and retired to a life of peaceful meditation. He took a vow of peace, swearing that only under one circumstance would he ever again take up the sword - that circumstance was the return of Rekhariz.

| - | Kharivas is wise and sagely. He offers advice to the heroes in [[Secret of Kelmar]], but his advice is often cryptic and ambiguous. He seems unwilling to give anyone direct assistance, especially when it comes to a fight, since he believes that humans need to be able to solve their own problems. But when he learns that Rekhariz has resurfaced, he knows that his action is needed and joins the heroes in their fight against his old foe.

| - | Originally "the Great Penguin", Kharivas evolved from a silly joke-character to a still-silly Author Avatar; from there, he eventually emerged into his own character, dropping the 'penguin' guise to instead be known as Shadow. He also became much more serious as his backstory was developed, giving him a close connection with the main plotline and the two main villains, Rekhariz and Vexx.
