Tl;dr is a shorthand for too long; didn't read. It is usually used in reply to a thread that has too much reading envolved. Sometimes one who creates a thread will type all bunch of useless information into one bulk of a paragraph. This bulk square also makes the thread bland, to which the tl;dr reply is used. The tl;dr reply could also be used when a large bulk of text is used in an argument. A poster could go on a huge rant and put all of their argument into one block. As a simple counter, tl;dr is the very useful. Tl;dr is also used by mods when a thread with a bunch of pointless text is used to make a thread. A mod could simply use tl;dr and then lock the thread.
