DETROIT - Seahawks cornerback Jimmy Williams saw first what the sports world embraced this week. In the Seahawks locker room, after they manhandled the Carolina Panthers and clinched the first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, Williams embraced teammate Seneca Wallace.
Their conversation started where most Seahawks conversations start lately.
With quarterback Matt Hasselbeck - soon-to-be international superstar /21_Charles_Woodson.
"Matt looks like he's glowing," Williams said to Wallace. "Like no one can touch him now."

Hasselbeck has heard them all this week. Heard Rush Limbaugh on his radio show talking about how all he knows about the Seahawks is they have the league MVP and some bald-headed quarterback. Heard his center, Robbie Tobeck, talk about how Super Bowls make quarterbacks into Super Stars - the global, household, instantly recognizable kind.
"But most quarterbacks, you know, they're All-American guys Peuterey Sito Ufficiale," Tobeck says. However, what he does in the later rounds will be just as, or even more important, than his choice with the first round pick.
In this post, I will not be making a mock draft such as James already did here. Instead I will provide an overview of the general needs as well as several players who could fill these needs. So settle in for an extensive preview of this year's NFL draft.
Quarterback
There has been much speculation recently that the Hawks could use their #4 pick to draft Matt Hasselbeck's eventual replacement. Two possible draftees here are Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez. However, finding quality quarterbacks is tricky business, as only half of the NFL's current starters were picked in the first two rounds. Neither of these QBs are anywhere near a guarantee, the Seahawks have too many other needs, and Hasselbeck remains a potential Pro-Bowl quarterback. Taking a quarterback first round would be a mistake.
With that being said, selecting a physically talented QB in a later round does make sense for the Hawks. It would be far less of a risk, and there are many college athletes with the physical tools to be successful in the NFL who would be available later. Some include Clemson's Cullen Harper and Purdue's Curtis Painter who could be available around the sixth or seventh round Freeney Jersey.
Linebacker
With Julian Peterson traded away to Detroit, the Hawks now have a need at OLB. In a dream scenario for the Seahawks, the uber-talented Aaron Curry from Wake Forest would fall to the Hawks at #4. However, he will likely not make it past KC at #3.
If Seattle doesn't land Curry, the Ruskell should then use one of their earlier remaining picks to select a linebacker. Possible Peterson replacements include Virginia's Clint Sintim or USC's Clay Matthews (potential 2nd rounders), Ohio State's Marcus Freeman (3rd round), or South Florida's Tyrone McKenzie (4th round).
Offensive Line
The Seahawks definitely have needs to fill on the line. If the Hawks don't land Curry, the logical next selection would be to draft Walter Jones' successor. This player could start elsewhere on the O-line and learn from the best while Walter finishes out his career. Luckily, this year's draft is loaded in offensive lineman Woodley Jersey. In the best-case scenario here, Jason Smith from Baylor falls past the Rams at #2 to the Hawks. But as Smith likely will be chosen by St. Louis, the Hawks should draft the next-best lineman available, Virginia's Eugene Monroe.
But lets say the Seahawks don't take a lineman with their first round pick. The offensive line would still be an apparent need, and some potential draftees could include SC's Jamon Meredith, Oklahoma's Duke Robinson, or Alabama's Andre Smith (could he really slip that far?)
Finally, the Hawks could boost their O-line by drafting a center. They have gotten inconsistent play from Chris Spencer, and drafting a center to compete for the starting spot will boost their depth and perhaps light a fire under Spencer. While the top two centers, Max Unger and Alex Mack will likely go in the first two rounds, others may be available later, such as Jonathan Lugis from Arkansas and Antoine Caldwell from Alabama.
Secondary
With Jim Mora, a secondary guru, now head coach, the Hawks will likely look to improve their secondary in the draft. At safety, Ruskell should look into drafting Brian Russell's replacement in the form of Oregon's Patrick Chung, Wake Forest's Chip Vaughn, or Clemson's Michael Hamlin.
The Seahawks may also look to fill a need at cornerback. Ruskell has missed at this position in the past, taking Josh Wilson and Kelly Jennings with 1st and 2nd round picks. But I don't think cornerback is as big of a need as other positions, and Wilson and Jennings are developing into decent NFL players. If they do end up selecting a cornerback, some candidates include South Carolina's Captain Munnerlyn or the versitale Sean Smith from Utah.
Wide Reciever
The Seahawks could still use more depth at WR, however. A later selection of a wide-out could help avoid last year's wide receiver epidemic. Potential prospects include Penn State's Derrick Williams or, yes, Wazzu's Brandon Gibson.More information, remember to view Below Articles.
