================================================================

I:Energy Energy is the main element in PenguinRPG. It is used to do everything there is to do. These activities include working at the hospital, training, fighting, exploring, and doing the Elf Quest.

  a: Getting Energy
Energy can be obtained in several different ways. The main way of gaining
energy is to wait until the hourly reset (or cron job). A count down of
the next reset is displayed on the left side of the screen. Each hourly reset
will give you 15 energy. You cannot gain more than 255 energy using this
method. Some other ways to obtain energy are: Answering the Question of the Day
will give you 10 energy. Completing the Elf Quest will give you an option to
gain energy. Bonus Points can give you 10 energy. Potions at the hospital give
  you 20 energy.

II:The Hospital The hospital is one of the most useful buildings in Icyland. There are several things to do there.

  a:Potions
Potions can be bought for 450 coins once every hour. They will automatically
give you 20 extra energy. Many more experienced players buy several of these
every day. Newer players usually don't use them, as they are quite costly.
  b:Healing
To be healed, you must pay 50 coins at the hospital. You can also wait untill
the hourly reset, at which point you are healed free of charge.
  c:Sweeping
At the hospital, you will be given an option to sweep the floor. This uses 8
energy, and will give you 40 coins. It is not a very efficient way of making
  money.

III:Training To train, click on the 'Train' link on the left side of your screen, or go to Icyland, and click on the building in the top-left corner. Toy cannot train during a storm! Before you train, you must warm-up. There are different types of warm ups, and they are all random. You can get a "good" warm-up, a "very good" warm-up, or a "perfect" warm-up. The better the warm-up, the higher percentage of bonus you will receive. For example, with only a good warm-up, you will receive a 10% bonus. So if you train 10 energy, you will gain 11 points in the skill of your choice. With a very good warm-up, there is a 20% bonus, and with a perfect warm-up, there is a 30% bonus. Do note, training more than 40 energy at one time will make it so you can get hurt. Getting hurt causes you to loose all of the energy that you were training. Buying a personal Assistant (see section XId-3) will make it impossible to get hurt for one day.

  a:Power
Power determines how hard you hit in battle. The higher your power, the harder
  you hit.

  b:Agility
Many people only train this skill. Although it doesn’t help you hit harder, it
helps you hit first. In PRPG, you can usually hit very hard, and most people
don't have very much HP. You can usually kill someone in one hit. So if you
hit first, guess who's 'gonna win...

IV:Explore Exploring is a big part of PGRP. Exploring is a great way to spend energy and gain coins/cubes.

  a:How to do it
To explore, simply click on the explore link on the left side of the
screen, or go to Icyland and click on the building to the left, in the
middle. From this screen, you can fight monsters for two energy, or
explore for one. You cannot explore when it's windy! To explore, click the
link and a new window will open up. Then click on the left/right/up/down links
to explore. Everything in explore is random! there is no right or wrong way to
do it! You can get Ice Cubes and Coins from explore. You can, however,
encounter a dead end, which basically just wastes one energy.
  b:Coins
Coins are gained from exploring. Coins can also be gained from a Bonus Point
(see VIIb), and working in the hospital(IIc). Coins are used to buy from the
shops, and to buy cubes from players in the market (XIa). Coins can also be
put into the bank in order to receive a 5% daily interest. (See XIe) Lastly,
coins can be used in conjunction with cubes to upgrade weapons and armor. (as
of 8/18/05, upgrade system is not working)
  c:Ice Cubes
Ice cubes are collected while exploring. They can be used to buy a clan
(VIII). In order to buy a clan, you will need to collect 1500 cubes. They can
also be sold to players for coins in the market. (as of 11/2/05, prices are
80-400 coins each) At the armory, cubes are used with coins to upgrade weapons
  and armor.

  d:Medicine Woman
Occasionally, you will find a medicine Woman while exploring. Approaching her
will give you a Bonus Point. In the old version of PRPG, before the Reset (see
X), there was a secret with the Medicine Woman. Waiting on her screen for two
minutes would give you 40 Bonus Points all at once! This has since been
  removed.

V:Fighting Fighting, though it serves little purpose, is another big part of PRPG. Fighting gives you Experience Points (or XP). Once you get a certain amount of XP, you will gain a level. A higher level allows you to purchase better weapons and armor.

  a:Weapons & Armor
Armor will reduce the amount of damage you take in battle. Weapons will
increase the amount of damage you deal out in battle. To buy armor or
weapons, go to Icyland, and click on the building called "Weapons", and then
click "James’ Guns" You will be able to buy weapons and armor here. The higher
your level, the better the weapons/armor you will be able to purchase. There
is a bug that exists that allows your clan to give you a weapon that you are
not a high enough level to use. Now, to equip your weapons and armor, go back
to the previous screen, and click on "Armory". You will be able to equip your
weapons(and armor) from this screen. If you want to make your weapons and
armor stronger, go back to the previous screen, and click "Blacksmith". For
the cost of 75 coins and an ice cube, he will add +3 damage or protection to
your weapon. For example: I have a weapon that is +10. I pay the Blacksmith to
upgrade it. I now have a weapon that is +13. You must go to the Armory and
unequip your weapons before you can upgrade them. Lastly, if you want to
sell your weapons or armor, click on "Pawn Shop" and you will be able to sell
  back your weapons.
  b:Level
Level really has no purpose aside from bragging rights, and being able to buy
better equipment. To gain levels, you must fight either the Explore Monsters,
or other players to gain XP. XP gains are totally random, but they are
generally higher from the Explore Monsters than they are from players. Once
you get a certain amount of XP, you will gain a level.
  c:Getting Tired
Getting tired is a random occurrence while fighting. Though, it seems to occur
more frequently if you have been fighting a lot. Basically, this means that
you were going to get a chance to attack, but did not. Depending on how much
higher your agility is compared to your opponent, you may or may not be able
to attack next round. This system makes it so weaker players have a chance at
  some of the stronger players.
  d:Check First!
When using the search feature to battle, don't just click attack on someone!
What if they're stronger than you? First click on their name. This will show
you their public profile. Their public profile shows you information like
their agility rank and their power rank. If their agility rank is higher than
yours, it would not be a good idea to attack that person. You could still win,
but it's not likely. To see what your agility rank is, look on the left side
of your screen, and click "Home". Now click "Player Ranking". This will show
  you your ranks.

VI:Monsters Monsters can be found in the 'Explore' Area of Icyland. To get here, go to Icyland and click on the building to the middle left. You could also just press the 'Explore' link on the left side of your screen. Fighting a monster requires two energy. You cannot come here if it's windy!

  a:Basics
There are two monsters you can fight. The Squid, and the Octopus. Clicking on
their names will bring up a window that allows you to change their names.(as
of 9/27/05, this feature does not work) You can equip a weapon on the
Octopus, but the Squid will always have a weapon equipped, making him a harder
opponent.. Equipping a weapon on the Octopus just makes him harder to beat.
Fighting monsters is VERY different from fighting players. For one, it only
takes two energy, as opposed to three. The main difference is that agility has
no affect on the battle. You will both hit as hard as you can and whoever hits
harder will win. Killing a monster grants a nice bit of XP (generally, more
than a player would) and a few coins. But, remember, they become harder to
kill each time. If you win the fight, you will take one point of damage, if
  you loose, you will die.

VII:Bonus Points Bonus points are an extra way of getting small amounts of items in PRPG. They can be used to get anything from a clan point, to a handful of coins.

    a:Getting Bonus Points
There are four different ways of obtaining bonus points. There used to be
Another option, but Metarewards was removed because they like to send anyone who
used their service bunches of spam mail and no one ever got the huge amount of
bonus points that were promised for completing offers. Currently, you can
earn bonus points by voting, finding a Medicine Woman(IVd), and referring
friends. You can also get a bonus point by completing the offer on the “Earn Bonus
    Points” page.

   b:Using Bonus Points
Using bonus points if VERY easy. First click that link that says “Home” on the left
side of your screen. At the top of the page, there are messages. Under your messages, there
will be a line that says “There are unused bonus points”. Click it. You will now get to
choose between 50 coins, 10 energy, a Penguin Point, a Clan Point, or 5 Hit Points.
        1: Penguin Points
Penguin Points have no in-game purpose. There used to be monthly contests, and the
person with the most at the end of the month would receive a T-shirt. This month’s “prize”
is an MP3 Player. It has been the prize for many months and no one has ever been sent one.
        2: Clan Points
Clan points are for clans. They are used to buy territories, and the spy satellite. They are
also used to declare wars. Territories are 20 points each (up to 2), and so is the satellite.
Wars cost 20 points to declare.

VIII:Clans Clans are a HUGE part of the game. A clan is a group of people what are all on the same ‘team’. They can fight together in wars, lend out weapons and money, and much more. Clans can even own territories of Icyland! To get to the clan map, first go to your clan’s Home Page. (either click the link on YOUR “Home” page, or go to Icyland and click on the Clans Building on the Middle-Right and then press “My Clan”) Now scroll down a bit and click the link “Clan Map”. The clan bank will gather 6% interest, until 2 Million is reached, at which point no interest will be gathered.

   a: What do Clans Offer?
        1: Clan Types
Different types of clans offer different things every day, or every hour. The three types of
clans are Windy Storm, Mystic Ice, and Solar Flare (many consider this to be the best kind
of clan). All clans cost 1500 Ice Cubes to create. Solar Flare clans Provide members with
10 coins every hour, and 15 HP (hit points) every day. Mystic Ice clans net members 10
Agility daily* and Windy Storm clans provide a daily 5 Ice Cubes*. Starting to see why
people think Solar Flare is the best?
        2: Clan Armory
The Clan Armory is a way for members to donate old weapons/armor, and for owners to
pass them out to members who are need of new equipment. There is a small bug that makes
the game think that an item is still yours after donating it. Because of this, you will not be
able to buy another of the same item until the clan leader (or co-leader) gives the donated
item to someone else. The Armory is found in the green building on the Clan Map.
        3: Satellite
The Satellite is a useful tool for members to see the exact stats of another player. They cost
the clan 20 Clan Points and can be found in the yellow building on the Clan Map. To use it,
just type in someone’s name in the text box and press “Spy” .The person will get a message
saying “Received Satellite Spy Warning...”, but they will not know who spied on them.
You will then have to wait 90 seconds to spy again.
        4: Forum
The clan forum is basically a private forum that only members of the clan can see and use.
It can be used hold contests, talk about war plans, any anything else you want...
        5: Territories
        UNDER CONSTRUCTION
   b: Clan Wars
   UNDER CONSTRUCTION
   c: Well-known Clans
        1: Xgen
A very large clan open to everyone! Owned by Kevinok and co-owned by Dlhenry. This is
another clan that was around long before the reset. It is often inaccurately called the “noob
clan” because everyone is allowed to join.
        2: Big Business
One of the two Superpower clans. Owned by Cletus and co-owned by Difabio. Despite
their strict entry requirements of top 20 Agility, many of their members are far below this.
This clan was one of the first clans formed before the Reset. (see XII)
        3: Oni Tribe
Currently one of the two Superpower clans. Owned by Saradus, and co-owned by AndyP.
It has been known as the “mod clan” because it has always had several Mods/Admins as
members. Entry requirements: Top 75 Agility. This clan was around before the reset.
        4: Tunnel to India
The original owner (and maker) of the game’s (Auth’s(XIIa)) clan. Auth is the only person
in this clan, and it does not accept new members. His clan before the reset (see XII) was
        “Cable Car Crew”

XIV: Territories UNDER CONSTRUCTION

X: Forum Etiquette I decided to write this section to alert people of what to do and what not to do in the forums. The forums are a great addition to the game. They can be used for anything from talking with the community to selling your Cubes. Hopefully this should prevent some… Unwelcome behavior…

   a: General Posting
If you have ever posted in ANY forum before, you should be able to figure this part out on
your own. I’ve just added this because some people need a reminder... “Flaming”, or rude,
personal attacks on someone are really not necessary. If someone’s being an idiot, call them
on it, but no need to get vulgar. Profanities are generally frowned upon; we do have some
younger players. Basically, use common sense. Good grammar/spelling is always appreciated.
   b: Spamming
Spamming is bad! Creating multiple, similar threads, posting several times in a row, and
posting useless things that have nothing to do with anything are all types of spamming. Of
course, there are other, more subtle types of spamming, but if you use common sense, you
should have no problem staying out of trouble.
   c: “Thread-Jacking”
Hi-jacking is the stealing of an air plane (in simple terms…), and so one could probably guess
that “thread-jacking” is the stealing of a thread… This is very bad, just like spamming. An
example of thread-jacking would be: Jeff creates a thread in the Trading/Swapping forum
saying that he wants to sell 100 Ice Cubes for 150 coins each. Bill comes in to Jeff’s thread
and says “No, buy them from me. I will sell them for 100 coins each.” Usually, it isn’t that
easy to read, I just made it nice and proper.

XI: Other Buildings in Icyland This section is just a basic summary of the buildings that I have not yet talked about. These are the less-important buildings, but some of them still have their uses…

   a: Market
To get to the market, First go to Icyland, then look in the bottom, left corner. It has the word
“MART” written on it, you can’t miss it. In here, you can sell your Ice Cubes to other players.
The controls are very self-explanatory. You can add your listing, see other listings, and
remove your listing if you have one. You cannot use the market during a storm. (Going rate
for Cubes is 80-400 coins- 11/2/05)
   b: Townhall
In Icyland, the Townhall is the second building from the left, in the middle row. From here
there are alternate links to the Forums, the Chat, and your Mail. You can also see the Top
Players List, or the high scores, you can see who’s currently online, and what part of the game
they’re in, and lastly you can make a search for someone and see their public profile. There
are other places you can do this in, too. In the Admin Room, there are two more links. The
Admin List shows all game staff and what they do. Auth’s Room shows what programs were
used to make the game, and a couple other things. The Jail shows people that were banned
from various parts of the game.

   c: Games
The games room is second from the right on the top row (in Icyland…). From here, you can
play four games, listed below. You can also vote in polls in this room.
        1: Elf Quest
The Elf Quest is a puzzle that is randomly generated daily. It consists of four* rooms, each
of which have three options to choose from. One option will give you a small prize of
coins*, another will kill you, and another will give you a key to the next room. If you
complete the puzzle, you get to choose between several larger prizes. The quest takes ten
energy to play, and is almost impossible to win. Very few people play it
        2: Question
The question of the day is an easy way to get ten energy. In theory, the question is changed
every day. This usually doesn’t happen. When the question is changed, all you have to do is
press a button and if you’re right, you get ten energy. Some clans offer QOTD (Question
Of The Day) answers as a benefit of joining.
        3: Dice Game
The Dice Game is a very, very simple way to throw away money. You simple enter a
number, 1-6, and place a bet. If you guess correctly, you win whatever you bet. If you don’t
guess correctly, you loose your bet. Basically, you’re playing 1:6 odds for a 1:2 payout...
        4: Penguin Blackjack
The most recent game, Penguin Blackjack, was coded entirely by Theemuguy. It’s
basically a dumbed-down version of regular blackjack. It costs 150 coins to play, and you
get 500 coins if you win. For those of you who don’t know, the main point of blackjack is
to get cards that equal 21, without going over. The jackpot feature is currently (11/2/05) not
        working.

   d: Shop
The shop, or Store, is in the top row, second from the left in Icyland. In here you can buy new
avatars (that little picture on your “Home” page), and various other useful services that last
until the next daily reset, not to be confused the with hourly reset.
       1: Clothing
Clothing serves no real purpose other than looking good. The “special” series has been a
ghost for the longest time, and isn’t that special anymore. All of the outfits will change the
way you look on your public profile, and on your “Home” page. You may notice people
that have outfits that are not available to buy. These people are either Admins, who can
change their avatar (outfit) at will, or one of two people who have won “Avatar Contests”
and have had the privilege of getting a custom avatar, made by themselves.
       2: Penguin Guard
Penguin Guard Services are very useful. They make it so you cannot be attacked until the
next daily reset. Do not buy one if you intend on attacking someone, because you will not
       be able to do so.
       3: Personal Assistant
The Personal Assistant is another useful tool. This one is mainly for older players who have
extra money. It basically saves time by letting you train more than 40 energy at once with
no chance of hurting yourself. It’s definitely not something you need, but if you’re lazy, it
can help. It will also last until the next daily reset.
       4: Missiles
Missiles are a tool to prevent people from spying (see VIIIa3) on you until the next daily
       reset.
   e: Bank
The bank is one of the most useful buildings in Icyland. It is located on the bottom row,
second from the left. You can deposit money into your bank and receive 5% every day, unless
you have more than 2 Million coins already in there. If you have any more than 2 Million
coins in your bank, you will stop getting your interest. Many just remove their 100K interest
daily so that they can get it again the next day.

XII: Well Known Players This section will introduce you to some of the more active players in the community.

   a: Game Staff**
This is a list of all game staff and what their job on the Staff List (see XIb) is. Note, some of
   the Admin are inactive…
       1: Auth
Position on Staff List: Game Admin
The original owner and creator of Penguin RPG. Somewhat inactive. No Information submitted.
       2: Chris
Position on Staff List: Game Admin
Submitted Information- “I am one of the first Penguin Battle members, and one of the first staff. I
have been here a long time, started when the first beta test was about. I Searched for bugs and just
enjoyed playing the game. As I recall, I was the one that told Saradus and a bunch of others about the
game. I turned into a staff by helping auth as much as I could with the game and bringing in a lot of
new members. I have been an admin for quite some time now and have just recently gotten full access
       to the game.”
       3: Straniero
Position on Staff List: Game Admin
Current owner of Penguin PRG. Somewhat inactive. No Information Submitted.
       4: Theemuguy
Position on Staff List: Game Coder
Submitted Information- “I'm Matt, and I live in New Zealand. I just joined the team at PenguinRPG as
the position of a coder. I know HTML, (of course), PHP, Javascript, mIRC (a scripting language for
IRC) and a little bit of qBasic and C++ (I never really liked those languages). I've been on
PenguinRPG for almost a year, I guess.”

Position on Staff List: Forum Moderator
Submitted Information- “I was one of the earliest members of staff, along with chris and andyp, who
joined the game about a week after it was online and soon became a forum moderator. Now an admin
(though shown as a forum mod on the staff list), I helps with general site duties. Good friends in real
life with fellow staff member Andyp and also running Oni Tribe, one of the founding clans alongside
Big Business and Xgen. One of my proudest achievements on the site was an 18+ million bust on one
of the users a few months ago.”

       7: Doug
Position on Staff List: Forum Moderator
Submitted Information- “I have held the position of Advertiser, Bug Tester, and Forum Moderator at
PenguinRPG. As the original bug-exploiter, I am adept at detecting and using URL bugs to my
advantage - leading to my removal as game advertiser. Later on, I resumed duty as a Bug Tester with
Locke, and redeemed ourselves by finding and reporting countless URL hacks. After the site was sold
to Straniero, I became a Forum Moderator and continue on as such to this day. I am also the
       administrator of GEP: http://www.gepforum.com.”

XIII: The Reset The last reset occurred about 6 months ago (current date is 11/7/05). It was hinted at previously, but no warning was given. The next day, when everyone went to log in, they found that the game had been reset. Some names changed, some didn’t. This gave everyone a fair start. Some of the top players before the reset are now some of the worst, and Vic versa.

XIV: Coming Soon (hopefully!)

   a: War Logs
Several people have suggested clan war logs, so they can see who killed who. This would
make it easier to give out rewards to those who do well in wars. It is not sure if this idea is “in-
the-works”, or if it will be some time still.
   b: Territories
   Completed! (see XIV)
