The place where two bones meet together is called a joint or an articulation.

Different joints allow a different degree of movement.

There are three major types of joints:

FIBROUS JOINT

Bone ends are joined by strong, fibrous tissue called sutures.

There is no possible movement.

E.g. within the skull and pelvis.

Cartilage discs lie within bone ends.

Theses discs perform as shock aborbers.

Slight movement is possible.

E.g. Between the spinal vertebrate.

The surface of the two bones slide over each other easily.
