Kanto
Kanto Federal Region
- Capital City: Saffron City (also where the regions hold a central location for discussing legal and commercial interests)
- Largest City: Saffron City (by a narrow margin)
- Local Safari Zone: North of Fuchsia City
Kanto is a humming and vibrant central region. The most heavily built-up of all the regions, it sits on a flat plain on the southern coast of the main island in the Nihan Archipelago, and serves as the hub around which the Nation turns. Commerce is centered around the massive metropolis of Saffron City, the economic capital of the region, and flows through the nearby smaller metropolis of Celadon City and the seaport of Vermilion City, on the bay of the same name. To many foreigners, Saffron City IS the Nation, though most peoples' first view of National soil is from the Ishihara International Airport to the west of Celadon.
Beyond the three major cities, the Kanto region is actually still rather rural in parts, though considerably more built-up than more "provincial" regions. A solid road network has been built to connect the majority of the east half of the region, and sees enough use that even the establishment of the national MagLev Network was unable to make it obsolete. However, connecting to the western mining town of Pewter City and the other smaller towns near to it from the eastern half is not possible by road, and must be done either by foot over (or under) Mt. Moon or via the MagLev Network.
The Pokemon Combat Academy for Higher Learning, more commonly known as the PCA, is located at Viridian City in the west of this region.
Johto
Johto Federal Region
- Capital City: Goldenrod City (recently moved from Ecruteak)
- Largest City: Goldenrod City
- Local Safari Zone: Located north-west of Olivine City.
Johto claims to have the oldest culture of any region. Far less extensively developed than Kanto, which lies just over the Victory Mountains to the east, it is still a heavily wooded and lightly developed area that well remembers its past. The Regional capital, historically, was located in Ecruteak City in the north of this region, and that city along with others like Violet City, Azalea Town, and Blackthorn City are great centers of the Nation's past.
Which is not to say that the region is entirely backwards. Its largest city, Goldenrod, is one of the most progressive in the Nation, having been the birthplace of the Region's now-elaborate radio and MagLev networks. And Olivine, to the northwest, is the third-largest seaport in the Region after Vermilion and Slateport, and receives heavy traffic inland to the rest of the region, or along the coast to the nearby Safari Zone. Still, much of the region is relatively untamed wilderness, something that many of its inhabitants seem to be fiercely proud of.
Hoenn
Hoenn Federal Region
- Capital City: Slateport City
- Largest City: Rustboro City (by a narrow margin)
- Local Safari Zone: Located north-west of Lilycove City
Hoenn Region is the farthest-south Region, and reflects this with a climate significantly warmer than that of the other regions such as Kanto and Sinnoh. It consists primarily of four islands, with other smaller islands and reefs included in its jurisdiction. In descending order of size, the four largest are: Hoenn proper, Mossdeep Island, Dewford Island, and Sootopolis Island. Though heavy settlement has been made around the east, west, and southern coasts of the main island, the interior is still very rural and undeveloped, partially due to the harshness of the terrain.
This starkness, however, has given Hoenn a reputation as one of the most scientifically advanced regions in the Nation-- many companies take advantage of the remote environments to set up labs and facilities, such as the Weather Institute in the Fortree Forest or the Cozmo Vulcanology and Meteoritical Laboratory in Fallarbor Town. The most famous by far, however, is the Mossdeep National Space Center, the largest government-run science facility of any Region. It is located on Mossdeep Island, due to its highly favorable conditions for such a facility.
Sinnoh
Sinnoh Federal Region
- Capital City: Jubilife City
- Largest City: Jubilife City/Hearthome City (extremely close)
- Local Safari Zone: Two, see notation.
The Sinnoh region is the farthest-north Region, and its climate reflects that; Sinnoh is harsh, and one of the least-developed Region in terms of infrastructure. The Region centers around the island of Sinnoh Proper, and includes Blacksand Island to the east and the southern half of Karalin Island to the north-east of the nation at large. Sinnoh proper is split down the middle by the Diadem Mountains, a massive chain of peaks which have historically divided the Region into East and West. The West is slightly smaller and less heavily built-up, but does feature the Region's economic (and as of recent, political) capital of Jubilife City. The East has more development but less accessibility away from the coast, and includes metropolises like Veilstone, Hearthome, and Canaleve Cities. This slight difference in accessibility has led to the West becoming, in the eyes of the East Sinnoh natives, the "favorite half" of the region, which has only served to heighten the traditional contention and competition between the two sides.
Though it does house many large cities and industries such as the Poketch Corporation and the Galactic Shipping Company, the mountainous terrain means that all large-scale transit of goods is done either by air or by sea. Even the MagLev network has yet to be expanded in any decent amount in the region, currently being connected only to those cities on the western side of the Diadem Mountains in the island's middle, and beyond the borders of the metropolises Sinnoh is wild and untamed country. There is currently work going on building a tunnel through the mountains to connect the cities.
Sinnoh is notable in that it has two Safari Zones. The first, its official Zone, is located north of Pastoria City. The second is a shared property of the Nation and its northern neighbor, known colloquially as the Battle Zone due to its extremely rough terrain, and takes up the entirety of Karalin Island.
The Sevii Islands
Sevii Archipelago Administrative District
- Capital City: One Island
- Largest City: One Island
- Local Safari Zone: None official.
The Sevii Islands are a special region under the Nation's jurisdiction, located south of the Kanto Region. They are listed as a district of the Kanto Region, and have been considered part of that region for hundreds of years, as their population is generally considered to be too small to warrant regional autonomy. However, recently the local government has been making hard pushes for the Sevii Islands to gain Region status of their own, and though they are not so in name yet, the Kanto government has delegated enough responsibilities and tasks to the local government that they might as well be. It is only a matter of time.
The Sevii Islands are a historical and biological landmark, located as they are at roughly the same latitude as Hoenn. The local biospheres are remarkably diverse for such small islands, and ancient ruins and historic structures can be found all over the archipelago. These facts have led to the National government declaring Sevii as a whole to be one big heritage site, as it were, to be preserved and upkept for the sake of history and science (the sole exceptions are the seven cities, which have permission to expand within their city limits so long as they do not overly affect the surrounding environment). A secondary effect of this is that much of the Region has become an unofficial Safari Zone, with many reclusive 'Morphs seeking out small and isolated islands where they can live in incredible isolation.
The Orange Islands
Protectorate of the Orange Islands
- Capital City: Pummelo Island
- Largest City: Mandarin Island North
- Local Safari Zone: Multiple
The Orange Islands are, technically, their own nation, and have been for several centuries-- calling an Orange Islander a National will likely get you a cold stare at best. However, for the past half-century or so, the Islands have been treated as a territory of the Nation due to a special political arrangement, hence their label of a Protectorate. Technically, the Orange Islands fall under the jurisdiction of the Sevii Island government and by extent the Kanto Region government, but for the most part they and National government are content to let the "Orangies" manage their own affairs.
The Orange Islands are the southernmost territory affiliated with the Nation, sitting on the edge of the tropics and slightly farther south than the Okino Islands. This position makes them a massive center of diverse Pokemon wildlife, and as such multiple islands in the Archipelago have been afforded the protection of a Safari Zone, making parts of the chain a sort of wildlife preserve. Some islands, such as Mandarin North and South, are heavily settled, and the region is by no means technologically backwards, but for the most part Orange Islanders live relatively simple lives in small towns and villages scattered about the rocks and reefs of their home.

MagLev Network
Maglev is a truncated form of magnetic levitation, which is the method of using powerful magnetic fields to counteract gravity, and the idea that this technology can be harnessed to make things float and move at high speed. The Pokemon Magnemite uses this design to float.
MagLev here most commonly refers to the ides of the MagLev train, also known as a bullet train due to its shape and speed, which is a tracked transit system that uses maglev technology to move-- and do I mean MOVE. Maglev trains are capable of incredible speeds, approaching supersonic at times, a discovery which led to the Nation establishing an enormous system of maglev tracks connecting its cities and regions, allowing for transit across the Nation in the blink of an eye. Commonly referred to as the MagLev Network, this high-speed rail system is largely responsible for the Nation's fast growth in recent years, turning what was once a two-week trip on foot from Mauville in Hoenn to Jubilife in Sinnoh into the matter of a two-hour train ride. Maybe less.
The network was pioneered in Goldenrod City, with the first line connecting that town and the capital of Saffron. Not every city so far has been hooked up to the Network, but the majority have, and getting to those towns not connected to stations is usually a matter of maybe an hour's walk. Maglev systems are fast, quiet, and almost completely maintenance-free due to the lack of moving parts. They can accelerate much faster than traditional trains, and decelerate CONSIDERABLY faster (though power outages mean trouble), making them much safer to use. And finally, they have a very low impact on the environment-- far less than diesel or coal engines.
