The Scopes trial, alternately called the Scopes monkey trial, was a 1925 court case in which substitute science teacher John Scopes was found guilty of trying to teach some monkeys about evolution. The monkeys had promptly evolved into humans and beaten him up. Scopes was fined $100, but he got off easy. You shoulda seen the other guy. This was a milestone in judicial legislation.
