The Bassoon family is mundane, because the bassoon itself is, but the family has odd members.

The family nomenclature is confusing. Besides the mundane bassoon we have:

Contrabassoon, an octave below the bassoon.
Quartfagott and Quintfagott, pitched a fourth and a fifth below the bassoon, but these terms have also been used to refer to ...
Tenoroon, pitched a fourth or a fifth above the bassoon.
Octave bassoon, an octave above the bassoon.

Of these only the contrabassoon is mundane.
