GOSSAINIAN POLITICS
The two largest parties, the Nationalist Imperialist Conservative Party (formed in 1927 by William Goss) and the Liberal Imperialist Party, dominate Gossainia politics. However, the popularity of these parties has been known to fluctuate and governments of the other parties have been formed. The main political parties at present are:
[edit] Nationalist Imperialist Conservative Party
Current number of seats: - 342
Number of Governments since 1919: - 9
Main beliefs: - The conservation of the monarchy and its great political powers, the protection of the powers and position of the aristocracy, the maintenance of the empire and the preservation of Gossainia as one of the world’s foremost military power. Also, non-membership in the European Union. The NICP is the current government, the Chancellor, Baron Svoboda, is the longest serving chancellor since William III.

Number of Governments since 1919: - 5
Main beliefs: - The conservation of the monarchy and its great political powers and the protection of the powers and position of the aristocracy. It is progressive in character and stands for moderated social reform, participation of workers in management and membership in the European Union. The LIP is the current opposition, having lost the last general election because of its stance on the EU. Its leader is the Margrave Grosz.

Number of Governments since 1919: - 0
Main beliefs: - The restoration of the Waddington family to the throne and the conservation of the monarch’s great political powers. The maintenance of Gossainia as the world’s foremost military power, the abolition of the aristocracy, the full democratisation of Gossainia and greater autonomy for the Grand Duchies. The party was banned from 1920 to 1991. The current leader is James Waddington-Kádár, grandson of Charles II. The WRP deputies refuse to take their seats in the chamber as they refuse to swear allegiance to the ‘usurper’ King-Emperor.

Number of Governments since 1919: - 3
Main beliefs: - The reduction of the powers of the monarch so that they are purely symbolic and ceremonial, the removal of the powers and privileges of the aristocracy, the complete democratisation of Gossainian society, correction of social problems, government influence on an expanding and socially orientated economy and the nationalisation of banks and key industries. Formed in 1882, the SDP was responsible for declaring Gossainia a republic in 1919. In order to boost support, the party moderated and dropped its republican policies in 1988. The current leader is Nicolas Jaruelski.
[edit] Gossainian National Fascist Party

Number of Governments since 1919: - 1 (coup d’état in 1990, government lasted one week)
Main beliefs: - The reduction of the powers of the monarch so that they are purely symbolic and ceremonial, all powers to be vested in the Chancellor and his appointed Council of Ministers. The dissolution of the Richsdiet and colonial governments and the centralisation of all power in appointed governors. The maintenance of Gossainia as the world’s foremost military power and the creation of a classless society of patriotic, bellicose Gossainians devoted to the state. The GNFP was founded in 1924 to counter the communists. Along with the military they seized power in 1989, but were forced out again when the King-Emperor regained the support of the army. The current leader is Ret. Colonel Adolf Honecker.

Main beliefs: - The abolition of the monarchy and the titles, powers and privileges of the aristocracy. Advocate greater independence for the colonies, the creation of a federal Gossainian republic and the full democratisation of Gossainian society. They campaign for membership in the European Union. The IRP split from the NICP in 1929 when William III was crowned. The current leader is Mikhail Dubchek.

Number of Governments since 1919: - 4
Main beliefs: - The conservation of the monarchy and its great political powers, regulated economic competition and close co-operation with the United States in foreign policy, free enterprise and a united Europe which would operate under Christian Principles. Also, the creation of a federal state and more independence for the colonies. Formed in 1920, they are one of the oldest political parties in Gossainia. The current leader is the Duchess of Clansburg.

Main beliefs: - The conservation of the monarchy and its great political powers, the removal of the powers of the aristocracy, the implementation of full animal rights and the destruction of all nuclear weapons and the abolition of the military. Also demand complete independence for the colonies, the creation of a federal, totally democratic pollution free state and membership in the European Union. Formed by mainly younger groups of environmentalists, opponents of nuclear power, pacifists and animal rights activists. The party was formed in 1994 when eight environmentalist groups merged together. The current leader is Lady Alexia, daughter of the Grand Duke of Pereyaslav.

Number of Governments since 1919: - 1 (1924-29)
Main beliefs: - The abolition of the monarchy, aristocracy and churches and the creation of a system of political and economic organization in which all property is owned by the community and all citizens share in the enjoyment of the common wealth. The establishment of a classless society, in which the means of production and distribution are owned by the community as a whole and from which any trace of the state has disappeared. Founded in 1918 and funded by the Bolsheviks, they were in power from 1924 to 1927, but were finally defeated by the right in the civil war by 1927. It is of insignificant strength and has not been represented in the Richdiet since 1967 or in the Ducal Councils since 1978. The current leader is ‘Comrade’ Paul Herapolapous.

There are of course small regional parties popular in the Grand Duchies, a few of these include: the National Peasant Party, the Independent Smallholders Party, the Our Home in Nordlich party, the Gagauz Peoples’ Party and the United Agrarian Party. Some of these minority parties include rebellious groups, for example, there is the Carniola Nationalist Party, the Slavonic Union Party, the Pereyaslav Liberation Army, the Gotland Independence Front and the Muslim Freedom Party.
