Madame Lethe Noire is the current librarian at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry and has worked at the castle in that capacity for the past ten years. She attended Hogwarts as a Hufflepuff, however it is unlikely that very many of her yearmates remember her, considering the fact that she is quiet, shy, and reluctant to socialise. She can be a bit flighty, which annoys some who are more feel that life should be taken more seriously.
When it comes to magic, Lethe isn't very strong – she barely scraped by in most of her classes while at Hogwarts as she very little magical talent and she was always forgetting important things when she had tests.
She has been Head of Hufflepuff House for some years now, and takes her duties as such very seriously.

Strengths, Weaknesses, and Fears
Sweet but more than a little forgetful, Lethe has the personality of a scatter-brained cream-puff. When set a task, she'll plug away at it until its done – which can take quite a while, as she's not very skilled at much of anything. Luckily, she doesn't let her lack of talent get her down, and her eternal optimism helps keep her from wavering. Because of this optimism, she rarely has a poor opinion of anyone, and often thinks the best of even those people who are known troublemakers.
She's very good at finding/tracking charms, a result of long practice of both. Aside from these, she barely scraped by in most of her classes – she has very little magical talent, and she was always forgetting important things when she had tests. She can be very patient and has a very kind disposition – she's a good listener, and tries hard to understand both sides of a situation before making a decision on it.
Lethe is more than a little scatterbrained – she's always putting things down and forgetting where she left them, forgetting people's names, etc. She can be a bit flighty, which annoys those who are more serious in nature. Additionally, a childhood injury caused her unable to speak very loudly with magical aid. A separate accident when she was younger left her completely colorblind, and she now sees the world in shades of grey.
Due to her quiet and somewhat-retiring nature, Lethe is not all that fond of interacting with other people, or really any type of social situation. She constantly worries about what she says and how she behaves when around other people, which often is manifested as her babbling on and on about completely nonsensical things. Really, books are so much simpler than people.
Family
Lethe is a half-blood witch, however she was raised as a Muggle, due to the fact that her father (Nathaniel Noire/71/museum curator) is a Muggle and her mother (Eris Acheron Noire/73/housewife), though from an old, middle-class wizarding family, is a squib. In fact, her mother's family, though old and respectable, has fallen to mostly producing squibs in the last century or so, with only the occasional, scattered witch or wizard – as it is, Lethe herself is the first witch in her mother's family in three generations.
In addition to her parents (both still alive), Lethe has a much elder brother, Orpheus (Orpheus Noire/49/professional cellist), with whom she gets along with quite well.
Background
As a child, Lethe, never showed much of any sign of magical talent, though she was never seriously injured when young (well, up until a rather awful incident at age eight, which caused severe damage to her throat). Because of this incident, Lethe has difficulty speaking very loudly, and was practically mute for several years as a child. When she received her Hogwarts letter, her parents were overjoyed by Dumbledore's reassurance that Lethe would still be able to attend the school despite her affliction. As a student, Lethe fluctuated between average and slightly-below average in her classes, but she remained extremely dedicated and hardworking, a true Hufflepuff.
After Hogwarts, she attended Muggle university, and after working at different Muggle institutions for a few years upon graduating, she was hired as the Hogwarts librarian a little over ten years ago. With the recent loss of staff, this makes Lethe the longest-standing staff member at the school, Dumbledore aside. She is quite happy at Hogwarts, and feels that she has found her niche here among all the books.
