- | Surabhi is the embodiment of all that is good about law school. Her boundless intellect is only surpassed by her warmth, friendliness and charm. To my lasting regret, I hardly knew her during the first two years of law school. To my lasting shame, once I began to get to know her, I completely underestimated her. Each stellar achievement seemed to come as a surprise to me. This was soon replaced by envy, and then, just wonder. I soon realized how foolish I had been - powering that thousand watt smile was a brain of interplanetary proportions... and vocal chords to match. but i wasn't the only one who was fooled.

- | You see, for the first 8 years of her life, Surabhi didn't speak at all. Her parents thought she was dumb. Several specialist doctors were called. One of them discovered that Surabhi was a unique specimen. It wasn't that she couldn't speak - she just wasn't moving her arms. 8 years of stored ideas found (a very loud) voice. There was nothing else for it. If the backlog had to be cleared, the arms would have to be freed. THE SLEEVES HAD TO GO!!!

- | Her brain, arms and voice all worked in unison. the brain powered the arms, the arms powered the voice, and the brain loved the racket. all three grew from strength to strength. Want proof? Ask Arun Sagar. Poor chap got beaten at Arm Wrestling by a yelling, screaming Surabhi. (She also managed to beat Gaurav and Rohit, no small feat that :-).

- | Surabhi came to law school hating it, everything about it (including, ironically, mooting), wanting to leave. She left it, a star, brilliant at everything she toook up, evoking much admiration and afffection (and in Cappy's case, jealously!) from her peers, juniors and faculty.

- | She is of course, solid at academics, ending up class 3rd, sharp and logical, and thinks at her feet (you had to see her in mooting action); but more than anything else, she is a stable, grounded person, who took relationships very seriously. One rare time when she didn't do as well in a moot as she would have wanted, she said stoically, "one only fails when you let other people down." Well, she never did, a team player to the core, and a truly great friend..

- | She never shies away away from giving contructive criticism, (which probably makes her an excellent debating adjudicator). When anyone is down, she can take charge, meteing out the best advice, using techniques most appropriate method for the person she is addressing (for instance, with Faiz she quoted poetry!)

- | She could be a total riot, especially when drunk (although there were times when she got all senti- reference new years party, fifth year). One such time was a now famous trip to Pecos, the result of which left some very happy and others envious (for various reasons!) But it wasn't just alcohol- her addiction to coffee is a part of Law School folklore, and she stayed up nights, buzzing on a caffiene high, completing projects, memorials...and sometimes engaging in veciforous debates, as Garima will vouch for! She actually went around the world in a little more than 30 days covering Sydney, Singapore, Vancouver and Islamabad and picking up prizes, laurels and packets of kajal. And she hasnt stopped with law school. Rumour has it that she's cleaning out NYU as well. But throughout it all she hasn't stopped being a nice person. If only we could have learnt from her (sooner).
