Project Overview In the spring of 2006, NI located a project with La Fundacion Los Robles, whose long term goal it is to establish an educational vegetable garden at every elementary school in the Merlo district of Argentina.
Nourish Funded Project Four UNC students, four Duke students and 1 Villanova student teamed up in June-July 2006 to travel to Pontevedra, Argentina, where they partnered with Fundacion Los Robles. In June alone, the collaboration between NI and Los Robles was able to produce four school gardens, which will educate over 800 students about agriculture and how to build their own food plots at home.
The project was a perfect example of international collaboration. The students were able to volunteer side by side with children at the schools, conversing and joking both in Spanish and English. The result was a successful cultural interchange. And La Fundacion Los Robles is now four gardens closer to achieving its goal. The schools each received an educational garden which they will be able to sustain for years and years to come.
Project Cost: $5,000 Amount funded by Nourish International: $5,000
