==Overview==

The success of our projects is the ultimate metric by which we measure our impact.  Everything else is a means to this end.  Running a engaging & meaningful project is a multifaceted challenge.  It requires ample research, excellent organizational & logistic skills, a flare for negotiation, and a keen sense of financial prudence.  It will take hard work and determination but in the end a successful project can be the experience of a lifetime.

==Criteria for Selecting Projects==

1.   An NGO that is focused not just on giving charity, but providing training, education, and resources.<br>
2.    An NGO that has expertise and a history of working with the community.<br> 
3.   Establishment<br>
4.   A need for student volunteers (unskilled/untrained labor)<br>
5.   A project where students can volunteer without replacing local paid workers<br>
6.   Students will not be a burden/cause a disturbance<br>
7.   Our presence won't create a dependency<br>
8.   Working WITH rather than FOR the community<br>
9.   An NGO that is efficient and productive with funds<br>

==How to find a project==

The first thing to do is to search the project database on Nourish's website to see if something there interests your chapter.  The database will launch in the fall of 2007 and will include both past projects as well as new project opportunities.  Until then, please review the projects listed in this wiki and contact the [[national office]] if you want to hear more about any particular project.<br><br>

You are of course free to seek out projects that are not in our database.  When we first started, we found projects using online search engines such as Google and Yahoo.  While this was a war of attrition, at the end of the day it worked.  You can also find projects by networking with other programs at your university.  If you come across a good project, please post it on the database so others can view it.<br><br>
