Strengths

Fulfils a specialised purpose.
Has RSS feeds of charts.
No cost.
Supports OpenID.
API Access / Export
Has Version Control.

Weaknesses

Only deals with org charts.
Not very flexible, really only deals with people (the only thing that can be added to the chart)
so if you try and add other entities then the detail screens still show person metadata.
Has no formal terms and conditions, privacy policy etc
Claims ownership over all data added to the wiki.
Possible conflict with the Data Protection Act.
No Import options.
Export only via API

Opportunities

Reasonable product, which has room to develop further given the right conditions.
Market not as overcrowded as more general wiki / web2.0 providers

Threats

Desktop org chart software.
Other org-chart wikis exist from bigger brands - http://orgchart.forbes.com/
Doesnt appear to have support of a large company.

About Cogmap (22 April 2008):

We are a web site, not a business. Businesses have business models. Web sites are just good ideas.
We are some passionate people with an interesting idea trying to make our way in the big world.
Help us out!

Privacy Policy (22 April 2008):

Today, we dont have a formal privacy policy because we dont have a lawyer.
The rules are subject to change when they become formalized.
Having said that, here are our ground rules:
  1. Dont post things you shouldnt
  2. We will never sell your email address
  3. We are not responsible for things that people put into the wiki
  4. We own the data, and may try to package up and sell data created in the
wiki if we figure out a business model
We use third-party advertising companies to serve our ads.
Go to www.networkadvertising.org to opt-out.
