The A'sh evolved from small primates that primarily used their arms in trees. Eventually, the legs became smaller and shrunk into the body leaving what looked like a snake-like lower half. At the same time, the A'sh body hair faded from the majority of the body except for the belly to the tip. The belly cover consists of small scale-like bits which are made of a tough protein called keratin and are a form of modified hair similar to fingernails and rhino horns.
