Michael was born in St. Jude Private Hospital on 17 October, 1986. Michael was born to a single mother, one Christina Smith, who was either unaware of, or refused to give the name of, his father to the nursing staff. The doctors and Christina's own parents were adamant that she give at least some name, and Michael himself actually spent the first day away from any family, while this argument raged back and forth. They did eventually relent; the boy was given to his mother, and secrets stayed just that.

Michael went to public schools, and was what most people described as a "trouble student" - he did well in his classes, but was pretty much always in the principal's office for picking some kind of fight or starting trouble with the other students. As he went through the grades, he was pretty much constantly checking in and out of the alternative programs for kids with violent tendencies, though eventually he was told he'd have to get along with others or face a permanent expulsion. He took various anger management courses, and managed to not only keep himself in class, but land a scholarship to Argos University.

In an impressively short time, Michael managed to finish both a Bachelors in Linguistic Theory, and make friends with Allison Halloway. Of course, the two thought they would simply remain friends - Michael certainly did, since his own therapist had warned against dating. Since the "Mansion Incident", however, the two have grown closer, and Mike has stopped seeing said therapist.
