[edit] Character Background

Amber was first created by Kary far back in 2004 at a short lived RPG called "And All Creation"; however there are record that she had made a similar nephilim-type character back in 2003 in another short-lived and long-dead RPG owned by one of her friends. Kary had always been fascinated by angels and mythology, thus where her inspiration for her Goth Loli Nephilim was born. However, the Mega EZboard Hack-Attack of 2004 had attacked and wiped out the contents of many boards, including many where Kary had frequented. All Characters she owned were salvaged but the attack led to the demise of And All Creation. During troubling times with another board, Kary found MHS and its rival AHS, but chose the former for the opportunity to play Amber again. She considers Amber her "pet project".

Her Tai Chi sword, crafted by her father long before her birth. It looks to be nothing special, but it is actually a force to be reckoned with.

Active:

-Sanctus Her pendulum is now able to produce a similar attack to her sword, a blast of chi energy in the shape of crosses. While it is weaker than her sword, it uses less chi and an be used for a longer period of time. Unlike the sword, being attacked with chi of the pendulum produces the sensation of being attacked by seveal small daggers. It proves useful if she doesn't have her sword with her. Supposedly it also has a chance of blessing objects, but it's entirely based on practice and luck.

Overuse is similar to her other attacks (fatigue) but it's easier to overcome than her sword.

-Vis Vires The ability to influence the direction of her blast of chi. By concentrating on the link between her own chi and the sword, she could control the direction of her blasts. The chi blasts will follow after the target for up to about 20 seconds before it dissapates as normal, or returns to her body for her sword to reuse. For now, it can only be used on one chi manifestation at a time, two if her chi is managed correctly.

-Sensus The pendulum is now able to pinpoint energy with greater ease. The colors that it can change to varies with the energy closest to her, and Amber is able to discern the meanings of the colors. As long as the pendulum stays on her person, she can feel the sensations of the energy closest to her.

-Sanctus Capio The next step in "Sanctus" Blessings, Amber can bless tangible objects (best limited to liquid or metallic objects), thus creating a temporary affinity to her. This means for 10-20 seconds, any objects she blesses not only becomes attuned to her but - anyone else coming in physical contact with the blessed object will be burned with holy unseen fire.

-Angelus Errare (Nephilim Lvl 1) More of a curse than an ability to one being half-angel, and the first step in the darker direction. A lesser degree of this ability has always existed in Amber, but it always was brief and completely unpredictable. Three conditions normally must exist: she must be completely sure that: her body, a friend or other "innocent" is in danger and she must feel that this transformation must be necessary for the danger to cease.

This ability will tap into the forbidden half of her conciousness; her attacks will deal more damage, so much that the chi that usually attacks the spirit will also appear on the skin as if she had dealt damage with her own blade. The ability will also allow her to internally regulate her energy so that she would last longer in battle (about six minutes more).

Using this ability is usually saved until last resort simply because of the drawbacks. Everytime she taps into this forbidden ability, Amber becomes reckless and will fight to the point of exhaustion. Also, a mysterious mark that resembles a henna tattoo will appear starting on the small of her back near her cross shaped birthmark. The more she uses this (especially if there is death involved-not PC deaths usually), the more the mark will grow. {The mark is a mystery for Amber, but it does not bode well for her soul...}

-Sanctus//Renuo A reaction that occurs when Amber is caught in a moment of danger. Fully aware of energy constantly around her, her natural affinity pulls energy toward her and then is forcefully discharged; the effect is best seen in an enclosed area and resembles the presence of a poltergeist. Any object (up to 15 lbs.) will be launched as a projectile, directed only at her opponent.

This power is affected when Amber is under the influence of Angelus Errare. The energy discharges in this form is much stronger and deals more damage, with the ability to break glass and launch projectiles in every direction, but presents a higher chance of harming herself. Whether in a rage or not, it takes two turns to summon the amount if chi energy and one to discharge. Aftter using this attack, Amber is unable to use any of her energy-based attacks for two turns whil she recovers her chi energy use. Using this power more than three consecutive times will lead her into complete exhaustion.

[edit] Personality

Amber appears to be a soft-spoken loner and a constant daydreamer in class, especially Math. She often seems detached from everything that goes on around her, lost in her own thoughts. She has a habit of observing other people from a distance at first, especially if a person strikes her as intriguing. She's simply afraid of what others would think of her if they knew of her strange heritage and would prefer to be alone to protect herself. Because of this fear, she seems to treat people with little warmth and distance. Despite this, people are still drawn to her (fortunate or unfortunately). Since her stay in MHS however, she has become more friendly and warm while meeting new people but preferring to still keep them at arm’s length until she knows more about them. Amber stays away from crowds, and gets visibly nervous when people stand too close to her or stare at her wings.

It’s not easy to tell what it takes to push Amber’s buttons, but there are a few that exist. Touching her wings immediately (though she tries not to let it happen) causes her to lash out with a punch or kick, as her wings are sensitive to touch. This reaction is also caused because something "embaressing" happens. The word “judgment” arouses a violent reaction from her, however the reason why she keeps to herself. Rarely does she say what bothers her, the few that knows her well enough could figure out when there is something on her mind.

Those who are proven to be trustworthy actually find that beneath the initial distance is a loyal, playful girl and highly knowledgeable in world folklore. In other words, she's as cute as the goth-loli image she presents herself. However, not very many people are lucky to see that side of her save her mother and Ria.

There is a violent edge to Amber's sweet personality, but it is something that she's highly protective and secretive about. The fewer that knows about this darker side, the better. The few that see it, she implores for their silence. This agressive side to Amber is still a mystery to her, but she's aware that it is an innate part of her existance. She's unable to recall memories or anything that occurs when she taps into this hostility, but she can piece an idea of what happens from her dreams and flashes of memories. At times, the memories are too much and engages in a ritual: she locks herself in her dorm room for a few days and then emerges feeling well enough. She rarely tells other what those dreams tell her, save for her closest friends.

Her talents include a vast knowledge of mysticism and occult, sewing, speaking Latin (she just doesn't realize that she can) and knowing a passable amount of Japanese. She also has the ability to think in "manga form", basically her feelings to certain situations can be summed up in a panels of manga purely existing in her imagination. Her hobbies are making custom "Dollfies" of people she knows, Tai Chi and practicing tea ceremony. She loves to write and she hates math describing it as a "fixed nightmare." She hopes to design and sell her own costumes someday.

Amber as a Child

Amber was born on October 1st under very abnormal circumstances. As a child, her mother Ciana would tell her the same story; in her days as a hit man for the CIA, a crucial mission in Russia went horribly wrong. She was at death's door when a handsome and mysterious man rescued her. The two fell in love while she had been in recovery, married a year later and moved to the tranquil city of Savannah, Georgia. One day, he revealed to her his darkest secret: he really was an angel on Earth! Amber was born a few months later, and as a child she was cheerful and radiant as sunlight with the ability to talk to total strangers with ease. Her mother truly believed she had an angelic princess of a daughter.

While Amber may have never fully believed the stories her mother told her, a lot of facts about her father seemed to make sense. She could barely remember her father's face, he called several time by phone to speak to her and visited once in a while. Over time, the calls ceased and so did the visits. Ciana's reply to her father’s diminishing prescense was simple and warm, "He cannot always be around for us, but he still loves us more than anything. He maybe will be able to return someday to tell you that himself."

Amber wished no ill feelings on her father, and she and her mother moved on with life. Ciana moved often to different countries in an effort to culture her daughter, especially spending much of their time in Japan. There Amber met an energetic young girl named Ria Misaki who immediately became attached to her and was her first friend. Two years later, they moved to Los Angeles where strange things began to happen. Amber began to realize something about herself was different; she could hear whispers around her even when alone, she could sporadically sense the personalities of others. Most of all, a dull pain and two mysterious scars appeared on her back. It was nothing serious, she believed that it was all in her mind, all the stress of moving around and such.

Finally on her 14th birthday, she sprouted a pair of small white wings and the truth was realized. The love story between her father and mother were true; she was a nephilim, the forbidden result of love between a mortal and an angel. New questions blossomed: what would she do with her wings? What really happen to her father? Was she a monster? What would people think of her? What was she?

Ria moved to the States to stay with them shortly after her wings grew out. Amber revealed her wings to her friend and was relieved when Ria completely (and oddly enough) accepted the change. Ria's suggestion to Amber's wing problem was to adopt the style of Gothic Lolita in order to disguise the wings as accessories. Embaressing at first, but Amber come to adore the style, used to the stares and awestruck gazes as she walked the streets of Los Angeles in flowing dresses of black lace and soft ribbons. The look worked for her and she could continue with the Gothic Lolita look for years to come.

Less than a month after her birthday, a strange package arrived on Amber's doorstep, a long box and a small white box stacked one on the other. The small white box held a shimmering crystal pendant and a note in neat handwriting was wrapped around it. "You are unique, in your birth and purpose. Awareness is Key and Focus is Light. Take care, Little Wing." Inside the box was a Tai Chi sword, not as sharp but sturdy with an indent on the hilt where the pendulum was able to fit. The appearance of the sword and pendulum strikes a curious chord with Amber, what could she do with such a strange sword.

Along with her new weapons came a series of odd occurances came with her wings; eccentric people with unearthly auras, strange letters in Latin without return addresses, the feelings of being constantly watched. Somewhere between learning and adjusting to her new self, she felt what true nephilim blood felt like. A series of gruesome deaths stained her hands, haunted her dreams and led to her decision to supress her more violent tendencies. To date, she still dare not speak about what she did or what had happened to cause it; but it's clear that she regrets what actions she took.

Those regrets persuaded Amber to enroll in special training with Ria's grandfather. For two years, he taught her the basics of Zen, Tai Chi, balance and chi energy. Her training was suddenly interrupted when Ciana without reason suddenly moves Ria and Amber and enroll them both to new schools. With Ria still in middle school, Amber is faced with having to be alone at her new school, MHS.

Unlike her previous schools, Amber seemed to have found a place for herself among the many different students that come to MHS and she finally had been able to make quite a few friends and a handful of close friends. Little by little, she opened up herself to others and made a significant change; from a shy and reserved to cheerful and friendly towards everyone she meets. Aside from the many changes, the problems she faces never leaves her mind or her dreams. The past and the karma she has built up threatens to catch up to her and destroy her. Even though she has now found support among her close friends, she still wishes to protect them from the dark side of herself, and the agents of Heaven and Hell that have now been appearing more and more often...

[edit] Her Time at MHS

Before coming to MHS, Amber kept to herself, staying away from crowds and cliques. Companionship was not an option to her so she decided not to seek it. The move to Buffalo, NY was such a sudden one and lacking a concrete explanation - not any different from any other moves in her life. The high school she was attending, Ciana told her, was a special one. She would realize how special it was.

Her first day there, she met a polite young man named Merciah Forigaln while having the feeling of being chased up to the rooftop. Her pursuer was a boy with borderline personality disorder named Yakoutio Motomota, who ended up becoming one of her first few friends. Her circle of friends slowly grew, including the calm princess Genevieve "V" Vendetta, the brooding dunpeal Vash Hellsinger and the perfection incarnate Akai Yagami. She would meet many more students of varying abilities and varying burdens; all the more reason that she felt not to involve others in her personal affairs. Unfortunately, personal affairs spill into her school life and a few did happen to find out about her murderous nature. The ones closest to her accepted her with open arms. Other students who did stumble on it tried to interfere with her methods. Then there were the few who would find advantage in the nephilim's strong loyalty; the Vendetta family implored Amber to protect V - a task she carry out without question or hesitation. There were occasions when angels or demons infiltrated the school and Amber had to eradicate them as quickly as possible, sometimes in front of terrified students. The more she tried to enjoy herself, the more she wanted to seek out of life, the more it seemed that Heaven and Hell intruded on her moments of happiness.

While many things had gone awry, positive things had happened. She was able to enjoy the comfort of companionship, a gift she had been so sure was meant to elude her. She began to recover fond memories thought to be long forgotten from her transformation at the age of 14. She, to her surprise, began to feel great affection for some closest to her: first Karrody de Champion and Vash Hellsinger - the latter blossoming into love over time.

However, such wonderful things are impermanent. Nephilim live in constant turmoil, the most cherished things will be taken away from her and in the end, there will be no happiness for her. It is her curse after all. Her curse has manifested in many ways; allies and friends die in horrible ways, friendly meetings go horribly wrong and the things she hold dear are taken away - the latest being her fondest memories of love between herself and Vash. No longer she is able to recall the fond sensations that come with love and she continues to live with that lingering, bittersweet sliver of a waking dream. However, life moves on and she builds even more friendships despite the eventual results. She found a new comrade in terrible luck, Maevis Pas and gains a fondness for the mostly apathetic Mazohyst Nanatsu. Amber finds solace in her lack of understanding certain emotions by protecting Stella Midnight and Lucas Reed, resolving herself to protect those who could feel such precious emotions.

Near the end of the summer, mysterious explosive attacks in three cities force the school to adopt a strict curfew, hindering Amber’s ability to seek death upon her targets. She ignores curfew and one night she is found by one Amaya Kudo, the icy and merciless English teacher. The two have an exchange, Kudo finally hearing the extend of Amber’s frustration with her following the path she chose. Though she escapes punishment, Kudo imposes an even stricter curfew on Amber and in turn, the nephlet hesitantly implores her help. The urges that drive her have become much stronger, much more her Angelus Errare much more difficult to control; with Kudo’s help, she feels she has a chance to reach into the darkness and try to control it.

With a new school year on the way, new experiences arise. An acquaintance by the name of Sapphire Day confesses feelings for the winged girl. Shortly after, a reunion with Karrody de’ Champion turns into an emotional confrontation and the resurfacing of Amber’s buried affection. He rejects the nephlet and the stress from the torrent of confusing feelings nearly leads Amber to commit a massacre on innocents in Niagara Park. Kudo intervenes in time and saves her...this time.

Unfortunately for her, while confronting her emotions and finding her resolve, there are forces at play and her soul may be wrapped in even more dangers than she knows...

[edit] Problematic Dual Nature

Born of purity and sin, the nephilim are known to be tumultous and unstable beings. At birth and childood, nephilim children are eerily beautiful but their true nature eventually becomes known: monsterous giants that devour and destroy whatever is in the way. Human beings have rarely laid eyes on these creatures as death and destruction is certain around these monsters. This is what the angels know their kind to be: a danger to Mankind.

There are two types of nephilim: angelic-born and demonic-born. The demonic born or fallen born are generally classified as demons for fallen angels have long lost their divinity as a result of their disobedience to God. These nephilim are much more short tempered and recklessly destructive but they pale in comparison to the level of the angelic born nephilim.

Eyes to be Feared.

There are far fewer angelic-born nephilim than demonic born and for good reason. It is known that the angels were created to be obediant helpers to the Lord, the embodiment of goodness and shining example of all that was right with the world. To go against God causes much chaos for angels. An angelic being that copulates with a human women is considered to be a huge taboo amongst the heavenly. After all, their allegience and love is to God alone. The children of human-angel births are as eerily beautiful as mythology says. However, the turmoil of carrying both purity and sin creates an unstable being: capable of sinning without carrying sin. Living paradoxes that carry great power and are able to cause great destruction around them.

Amber is no exception to this duality; when she kills she feels both a sense of remorse and necessity, but she cannot understand why she feels what she does. She feels the need to kill, and not acting upon it will cause her great psychologial pain - her nightmares become more lucid and terrifying and she feels heaviness in her heart, mind and body. When she decides to act, she's almost unstoppable until the job is done or until she has calmed considerably by outside forces. After making the kill, there is great relief and great remorse for her actions. It is a vicious cycle, but one that she tries to endure alone - anyone who bears witness to such violence could never love a monster such as herself.

And what of her human nature? Her morals that come from being raised by a doting mother is that it is wrong to kill. Growing up in Catholicism presses that it is wrong to kill. What is the right decision when your nature says otherwise? That is the question she faces and very few are willing to give her the answer freely. Even more importantly, she takes great strides in hiding her murderous escapades from her friends, fearing judgement and loss of human friendship. Living in the human world and seeing the nature for herself, she questions if even her most devoted friends will love a vicious monster hiding in plain sight...

There is a strict method to Amber's madness. How she atually chooses her victims is still a mystery, but they usually consist of people who commited heinous crimes. Those who commit travesties against women, the elderly and children are subjected to horrible torture at her hands. There have been victims considered "innocent", though they may simply be victims of circumstance - usually witnesses. Witnesses of Amber's acts of murder die a quick and painless death without the nephilim ever having to lift a finger. It is unklnown if Amber perpetrates the death of the witnesses or if it happens through other means.

The only time when she kills outside of the method is when her life is threatened. Once this point is reached, all reservations are dropped until her opponent is dead. Rarely does she feel remorse in this situation.

The only people that is not affected may be those that reside in Manga High School...but why?

• She had a doll of almost every one of her friends at MHS; they are now stored away and displayed at various times.Three gothic rag dolls. Most of her dolls also have the habit of coming "alive" when others visit her room and switching places when one isn't looking. Amber does not seem bothered by it.

• Touching her wings causes a very "embarassing" reaction, so she lashes out to combat that.
• Eyes used to have violet until her wings grew out; only one person knows this. Look long enough in her eyes and there will be a faint trace of violet; one person may know this.
• Amber's best friend is Genevieve "V" Vendetta - she's the first person Amber turns to when needing to talk or just hang out. More often than not, V would be the first person to know if anything major happens in her life, followed by Akai.
• Amber and Akai share an unspoken bond, able to sense one another's emotions easily and have a similar way of thinking.
• Her signature clothing style is Elegant Gothic Lolita, but tends to dabble in other styles of Lolita depending on the weather or her mood. Sweet Lolita for sunny days or happy mood, Kuro Lolita for the worst days, CyberPunk Lolita for outings, etc. Her reason for dressing the way she does: "I'm comforted."
• She likes crosses and gothic churches but is in no way religious. Her favorite hangouts are rooftops, belltowers and graveyards.
• With constant intervals of insomnia keeping her awake, she usually goes to the school rooftop, the forest or the waterfall to pass the time. Or a church belltower, if she's inclined to be there.
• Though she has a murderous side and has been caught twice by Amaya Kudo, she has never received a detention. She's not privvy to put herself in more trouble to test that luck.

[edit] Chibi Amber

Less melancholy than her RP counterpart, Chibi-Amber is a lot more cheery and expressive, probably because she is enjoying her downtime with friends then in RP mode. Her best friends are Chibi V and Chibi Akai and her object of her affections was Chibi Vash. There are moments where she shows that she can be extremely clueless or quite intelligent - depending on the situation. She will happily cling to any of her friends, whether they like it or not. Chibi-Vash had usually been the victim of this sugar-cuteness but everyone will always be at risk.
