[edit] the only one who doesn't know happiness;

Much of Rikugou's history is shrouded in mystery. He does not speak of the time before he was summoned into service by the now-famous onmyouji Abe no Seimei back in the Heian period, he does not speak much of his time in Seimei's service, he does not speak of the time he spent after Seimei's death in the Celestial Realm...not a surprise, as he does not speak very much at all.

Rikugou was extraordinarily devoted to Abe no Seimei, even quietly deeply in love with him (the first time he ever experienced love), though he never spoke of it, content merely to be his shadow, his silent watcher. Watched as he married, had children...watched as he loved another. He watched over him for all of his long life, protecting him from almost everything. But he could not protect him from death, for death came to all mortals in time, and Abe no Seimei, for all his vast power and wisdom, was merely mortal.

And the first time Rikugou experienced heartbreak, true heartbreak, was when Abe no Seimei died peacefully in his sleep, after a very long life. And he returned in silence to the Celestial Realm, for he would serve no other onmyouji.

The years and centuries tumbled by, and Rikugou noticed them not. He turned away from the world outside the Celestial Realm, and ceased to pay attention.

Until, one day, an onmyouji's summoning, meant for a minor kami, caught his attention. Or, rather, the familiar presence behind it-that of Seimei-caught his attention. And he returned to Earth once more, appearing in place of the kami that Mizuo Tsukiko had meant to call, and became her Shikigami.

Rikugou knew, and knows, that while Tsukiko is Abe no Seimei reborn, that she is not him. He has kept her in the dark about who she was. But he protects her just as obsessively as he protected her in her past life, and will do anything and everything she says. For the past two and a half years, he has served her loyally, even following her to Tokyo one month prior (even though he finds it confusing, and loud, and still gets lost).

[edit] is the one who couldn't understand it's call;

Far too serious, brooding, and silent, as well as extremely, extraordinarily formal, Rikugou takes life extremely seriously, with no sense of humor (he never had one), and is very, very focused on what he perceives as his duty and would never willingly lay it down: no vacations, no time off, no breaks, nothing, unless he is somehow tricked into it by Tsukiko, who his life revolves around, as it revolved around Abe no Seimei centuries ago. He lives for her approval, and even the slightest hint of disapproval will result in him frantically trying to correct his "mistake".

Rikugou knows what heartbreak feels like: but other then that and duty, and love, he does not know what other human emotions feel like. He has not experienced them before, and those very concepts are foreign to his nature. In many ways, he is a blank slate, when it comes to human emotion, strangely innocent despite the years he has existed: he has been in love, but never experienced desire, and the concept itself is foreign to him. He is also very literal, and inexperienced with modern-day society, very inexperienced with modern day society and modern-day slang.

He is extremely devoted, and obsessively protective of Tsukiko, who is the center of his life: he would give anything and everything to her, burn the length and breadth of sky if she asked, give everything he has of himself without thinking about it. He will do anything that she wishes of him, without question. She is the center, the focus of his life, as she was lifetimes ago...and while Rikugou knows what she will die one day, as all mortals do, he does not know if his heart will be able to bear it for a second time when she dies.

And immortal tenshou or not...he may just shatter, without the focus of his life to keep him whole.

[edit] to stay myself longer;

Rikugou is a inhumanely, otherworldly, perfectly lovely young man, seemingly appearing to be about in his midteens, with wide, startlingly vivid green eyes and short, dark hair cut to frame his face (and his bangs often fall over one eye), pale-skinned, with very Japanese features (except for his eye color, which is very...not). He always has a perpetually serious expression on his face: he never laughs or even smiles.

He resembles a porcelain-pale, delicate china doll, not quite five feet in height and very slender, slight even, with slender, small hands. However, he is far stronger and tougher then his appearance would suggest. Especially since he wields a naginata that is bigger then he is, and is damn good at it.

On the insistence of Tsukiko, Rikugou wears modern-day clothing while walking around in Tokyo, as not to stand out any more then he already does. However, when at home, he prefers wearing the more archaic Heian-era clothing he was used to (namely, what he arrived into the world in), and walks around their apartment barefoot (he doesn't like shoes).

[edit] there's more then what can be linked;

Abe no Seimei: Rikugou's first master, and the prior incarnation of Tsukiko: he was in love with him, and still is in love with him, even to this day.
Mizuo Tsukiko: the reincarnation of Abe no Seimei, his former master who he was in love with. Obsessively devoted to protecting her above all things, for she is the focus of his life. Lives for her approval.

[edit] spirits rise and falling;

  • speaks very archaically: uses Heian-era speech forms
  • is modernly challenged. Very. Modernly. Challenged.

[edit] where was life when it had meaning;
