[edit] locked inside the only place;

  • Jacob currently ages at 1/3 the normal rate.

[edit] you lost yourself in your search to find;

Endlessly quiet, sweet, and nervous, and probably the most obedient teenage boy ever, Jacob is rather shy and stammering: he is almost completely petrified in social situations: he rarely speaks, and tries to hide in group situations. Depressed and gloomy, he tends to the pessimistic if he even offers his views, which occurs very rarely with someone he is not very comfortable with. He is willing to try to please, and would probably kill himself trying to make everyone happy if someone didn't stop him. He knows that he can't be what his parents want, can't be what they expect, and it tears him up inside to know.

He doesn't want anyone to worry, and he doesn't want anyone to take trouble for him.

[edit] something else to hide behind;

Small for his age-about 5'3" and slender, with black hair that he wears longish as his one teenage rebellion thing, and big dark eyes (his mother's eyes), Jacob is fairly pretty, rather attractive for his age with the promise of great beauty once he grows up, a bit pale (though not unnaturally so), with ink stains perpetually on his fingers. He carries himself in a compact manner, trying to draw in on himself, tries not to be noticed, and his clothes only match that: muted and simple, dark colors that only manage to emphasize his pallor, not really tidy at all, either. Despite his mother's repeated admonishments for him to stand up straight and to be more assertive, Jacob tends to slouch, trying to fade into the background.

He never seems quite alert, more dreamy, and is a very quiet child. To most people, he only speaks in as few words as he possibly can, never speaks up in class, and only holds actual conversations with people he is comfortable with.

[edit] the arrogant build kingdoms made of the different ones;

Jacob is the seventh and youngest son of his large Roman Catholic family-as it turns out, the seventh son of a seventh son, marking him for an unusual life. He was quiet, and shy, and easily lost underfoot: he dutifully went to Mass, dutifully took lessons in his father's dojo, and dreamed, hidden away. He never caused much trouble, never rebelled, was quiet and good and never spoke a word that he didn't have to, fading into the shadows.

And he never spoke a word to anyone about the things he saw in shadows, in the church, the ghost child that watched him with big empty eyes when he sat in the same place in the same pew on Sunday mornings. He never spoke a word about the dreams that were far more vivid then reality. And he never spoke about the depression, the emptiness he felt, that had grown so part of him that he could not remember a time without it until it grew to consume him.

His grades slipped. Not to the point where he was failing, but he was no longer on honor roll. And despite his parents believing that he was just lazy, nothing changed. He had grown too used to his twilight world to easily break out of it, and perhaps he couldn't. He keeps so many secrets, even from Daniel Hayden Lancaster, the sibling he adores most of all: he doesn't want anyone to worry, but doesn't seem to understand that it only makes others worry even more.

One of his biggest secrets that he has never told anyone about, his biggest secret other then the nagging little voice in the back of his head that thinks he's gay, was a suicide attempt early his eighth grade year, when the ghosts and the shadows became too much to bear before it all clicked into a place that made sense (Tylenol doesn't work, it just makes you violently ill the next day): he never told anyone that his last bout of stomach flu was not caused by a virus, but by Tylenol taken when he was out of the house where no one could see. Talking to the ghosts in the graveyard a few days later convinced him that it was a terrible idea and that he should never try it again.

He anticipates night falling, in some little hidden part of him, the same part of him that realizes that he can't be what his parents want, can't be the perfect son, can't be anything but a disappointment.

[edit] breaking them until they've become just another crown;

Jacob, when he's being honest (things he'll never say):

  • Daniel: He's...I look up to him. I'm...glad he's my brother. I'll never be as good as he is. He's the son they always wanted. I'll never be. It's fine, though. Let him have the light. I'm happy in the dark.
  • Vera: She's...nice. If she reminds me of Mom. I wish...I wish she would stop worrying about me. I wish I could make her happy. I wish I wouldn't disappoint her.
  • Tatiana:
  • Alan:
