Orecrest

The island nation of Orecrest is largely considered the wealthiest nation in the Lost Realm.
Orecrest is a monarchy; their are 4 official noble houses: Linius, Oceron, Maskellian, and Raeis (each descended from former kings, though their close associates are considered to be members of their house as well) and 1 unofficial house: Quiliveth (which boasts no former kings, but merely a short-term Queen whose husband died early on the throne and was quickly replaced; they insist on being ranked as noble among the others). When a King dies, or is otherwise displaced from the throne, the new ruler is chosen by the leaders of Orecrest's various guilds (not just the guilds within Orecrest Proper)--in turn, many of those leaders first take votes among their members to determine which way they shall vote.
Houses:
Zale Linius currently rules, but his presence was requested in Torrent about a month ago for the peace negotiations and he has not yet returned. Certain factions--including the noble houses--have used his absense to raise unrest and promote their causes. The Queen and young Prince (the title does not guarantee succession) are worried, and House Linius itself is becoming uneasy. Some guilds are going so far as to take votes among their members and are preparing to align themselves behind their chosen houses. Linius's colors are blue and silver.
Galeneon Raeis, head of House Raeis, is often considered to be the world's richest man, but most of this wealth is in properties and investments and not just sitting in some treasury. Orecrest's currency, the Ray, is named for this house. The Ray (often spelled "Rae" with a nod to Raeis) was the less-globally-accepted standard coin used before Torrent became the political capitol of the world and the Torin was adopted as the standard in its place. (Countries still distribute their own currencies, they are simply measured by the standard). House Raeis has the support of most guilds that trade overseas, and has closer ties to Relforsia. Their colors are green and violet.
The current head of House Maskellian is currently Jerelak Maskellian; the Maskellian family have always been close rivals with Linius and it shows more than ever now that Linius's head is away. Of the current houses, Maskellian is least favored to succeed to the throne, but they've always had something up their sleeve. Maskellian's colors are light blue and dark green.
Basecor Oceron heads House Oceron which has always featured the most battle-hardened military officers of Orecrest. Such ranks were once symbolic only and taken for granted, but even then, Oceron handled most revolts or scuffles quickly and effortlessly. Members of House Oceron are found in arms more often than in fine clothing, but they still know their politics and due to their heroism through the recent war, they have a good chance at the throne.
The unofficial house, Quiliveth, is headed by Foline Quiliveth, daughter of the aformentioned former queen. Quiliveth has developed some admiration from some of the lower class and some sympathy from the mid, allowing them to become a potential competitor for the throne. Their biggest problem is that Orecrest has always had a King and Foline is currently unmarried. Her plans on this matter are unknown, but she's assumed to be looking out for a good running mate.
