During the second half of the 18th century, Lucius Amelianu was rarely seen without Erik Nailen by his side. As Lucius and members of House Occido vied for control of the Square Mile, Erik Nailen ensured Lucius' physical safety. Far more physically capable than might be considered usual for a Mekhet, his presence acted as a strong deterrent for any wishing to interfere in the political struggle on a more direct level.

Nailen fell just as Lucius was about to enjoy his finest hour. As the final arrangements were made for his retaking of the City of London in 1798, a Gangrel assassin attempted to kill Lucius - presumably on orders from House Occido. The assassin, Andrew Carr, must have been a highly capable individual, for he killed three of Lucius' retainers before defeating and decapitating Nailen in single combat. Even in his death, however, Nailen did his job - the delay caused by his fight with Carr provided the time for further reinforcements to arrive, and the would-be assassin was forced to flee without the opportunity to kill his target.
