London - A Brief Overview

In Requiem terms, the London domain comprises the area north of the River Thames and within the boundaries of the M25 motorway. The area south of the River Thames, while still part of London "in real life" is represented in the game as the Southwark domain.

The London area has been settled since about 1600BC, and the Romans formally founded Londinium in 43AD. London has traditionally been split into two specific areas, The Square Mile and London Without. The Square Mile, also know as 'The City of London', is the area inside the original Roman walls, and comprises the financial district, St Paul's Cathedral, and is bordered on the west by the Tower of London. This area has been dominated by the Invictus for some eight centuries, ruled by the Lord Mayor. London Without is the rest of the city, a far more disorganised mass which has grown rapidly since the 19th century to the vast urban conurbation of today. Various factions claim domain over areas of the city as a whole, but there is no overall government.

These traditional divisions are slowly breaking down in modern nights, and attempts have been made to set up some kind of overall governmental structure for London as a whole, notably the Metropolitan Council. London possesses no Prince, and no single kindred can claim domain over the city as a whole. The most influential single individual is generally considered the Lord Mayor, but ultimately that role is confined to rulership of The Square Mile and has no specified authority over the rest of the city.

The Metropolitan Council has started to encourage individuals to take court positions within Outer London, although how long this novelty will last bears to be seen.

During the year of our lord two thousand and six, Lord Mayor of London was asassinated by a party lead by Bishop Tabitha, to which a power struggle did ensue culminating in the rise of the Metropolitan Prince Christopher Marchant and Invictus Ventrue. Here during the following months a new set of laws and establishment was created known as the [Lex Londinium]
