Notes

I've said Jack's number one until recently. Tiger's resurgence in 2006 really has settled the deal, and the string of consecutive victories he ripped off at the end of 2006 through the beginning of 2007 was the final straw for me. Jack is ever-so-close. It still remains to be seen if Tiger can do what Jack did late in his career; the major victories Jack had after age 38 were impressive testaments to Nicklaus's longevity.

I find it hard to believe Arnie didn't make my top ten. Perhaps he belongs there, but I was swayed by Snead's longevity and overall victory total, Watson's domination of the British Open and his besting of Nicklaus head to head in the 77 Open and the 82 US Open, Player's string of victories all over the world, and Sarazen's contribution to golf's history (inventing the sand wedge) and his career grand slam.
