Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 2.139 billion are either ruled by a small, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. Much of Sonnenwende's computer network is controlled by a rampant artificial intelligence, shanty towns are forming in the suburbs of major cities, traffic jams are a common sight due to construction work from a massive overhaul of the nation's freeways, and 'Mountain Doobie' is widely regarded as the nation's favourite drink. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Sonnenwende's national animal is the Pitbull, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Dollar.
