History
James was born into a pureblood family, to parents Clark Telemachus Ganymede Stewart Potter and his wife, Marylyn Lena (Hausenbichl) Potter. His mother was born into a high class Austrian pureblood family, his father to a similar and very prominent British pureblood family, and the two met through Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Though Marylyn could have attended a closer magical school in neighboring Germany, The Hausenbichls insisted she attend Hogwarts, which was a more widely-respected school. The two got along well, though Marylyn was almost two years his junior, and they were married a year after Clark's graduation in 1921. Despite immediate and continuous efforts to have a child, the couple was unsuccessful for a long time. Just as they had begun to give up hope, Marylyn discovered that she was pregnant with James, and he was born on December 22, 1959, only three days before Christmas.
Though James had a largely happy childhood, much of the earlier bits of it were spent feeling lonely without anonther child to play with. As the only child who came much later in life, all his cousins were grown, many with children of their own, and he had few companions. Though he had several small scale friends, none even began to compare to the first friends he made at Hogwarts, and especially not Sirius. When James arrived at Hogwarts in 1971, he was sorted into Gryffindor - though the hat gave some serious consideration to putting James in Slytherin (which he vehemently refused to allow).
