Springfield
- The 1942 restriction, coupled with Springfield’s growing population, resulted in an acute housing shortage by October 1943, when the city identified 86 families without adequate housing (Springfield News 1943). In November, the city made a request for new housing priorities.
Businesses
- Western Oregon Lumber Company purchased land for future operations in 1943, but didn’t build until 1945.
Education
- In 1943, Thurston High School voted to consolidate with Springfield and the grounds and old school buildings were sold (Dr. Carl Phetteplace used the gym building on his farm and demolished the classroom building).
