ISAAC VANDUYN

The subject of this sketch, a view of whose residence appears in this work, was born in Somerset county, New Jersey, August 17, 1810, but in 1815, he moved with his parents to Ohio, where his mother died. In 1827 his father transferred his residence to Vermillion county, Indiana, where our subject resided until 1840. Here he married, March 27, 1832, Sarah Miles, who was born in Brackenridge county, Kentucky, September 5, 1815. In 1840 Mr. Vanduyn settled in Mercer county, Missouri, where he resided until starting to cross the plains with ox-teams to the Pacific coast in 1851. Arriving in Oregon, September thirteenth of that year, he settled on the Forks of the Santiam, but in 1852, September fifteenth, took possession of the farm on which he now resides. This old pioneer is among the sterling men of Lane County, respected as he is for his manly worth. His children are: Mary Ann, Isaac, Thomas, John, William, Cornelius, Marion and Ellen.
