The Morning Oregonian reported in September 4, 1867 that Springfield had a general store and several “workshops.” A cabinet maker named A.S. Powers had a shop in the town center at least until 1865 (Walling 1884:453).
It is unknown if A.S. Powers is related to Edwin Powers who lived in Springfield at the same time.
