Koopa
Considered turtles, the Koopas carry shells on their backs. The shells have differen properties. Some are plain, some are firey, some are flight-like, some are psycho and spin. Koopas work with bowser, but it's not well known if they do it of their own will. While not very bright, they are very defensive, and can take a beating. They are rather long-lived as well.
