Shirogane Jishou is the husband of Elizabeth Shirogane and the father of Shirogane Ryou (as well as Shirogane Shuugo and Shirogane Kumo in other dimensions). He leads a generally carefree life between his teaching at Hoshizen and mentoring to Takaishi Sora on astronomy. He's a minor character, mainly known for his prankster attitude, as well as his positive outlook on life, despite his own gloomy moods recently because the final memories have come back to him. Even though he's a genius, Jishou can't cook to save his own life.Contents |
History
Before Kokoro
Shirogane Jishou was born the middle of three children, his brother Seijaku being older by three years, and his sister, Kirei, being younger by ten. While growing up, the boy was kept away from the world of magic, as it was quickly revealed that he was the cursed one of his generation, and the elders feared that he might be resentful that he couldn't use magic while everyone around him could. His life as a child was normal - he excelled in school, especially in history and science, made many friends, and began to pull his first few pranks.
Originally, his pranks were done for attention. But as Jishou soon realized that some of them actually made the most depressed person smile, he went on to build more elaborate ones. It was a miracle, almost, that his grades didn't falter as a result. His pranks soon became a part of him, and as he became older, the girls began to soon realize that he was more than just a simple prankster. This was much to his dismay, as girls were beginning to randomly ask him for dates. Unable to say no, this resulted in (many!) blind dates. None of his classmates really seemed to interest him in that way, and his friends that were girls.. were just that. Friends.
Two years before he left, he did meet one girl: Nakajima Haruka. The two were very good friends for a long time, though they met in the oddest of circumstances: Haruka was being verbally abused by one of her female classmates, and Shou stood up for her. From that point on, the two seemed to have some sort of bond that tied them together. A year before Shou left, the two decided to take it up one more notch, and began dating. They were almost at the boyfriend-girlfriend level when Shou announced that he was leaving for America. Knowing that their dating relationship would have to end, the two broke up while Shou was at the airport, hence his almost depressed feelings when he first arrived.
However, he had yet to realize the full impact of being in New York for a year. Meeting Mizuhara Max at the airport, the two stopped by at the flowerstop where Max's girlfiend, Kotoko worked. This was Beaumont Flower Shoppe, and that day was the first meeting between Shou and Liz. One day soon after, Shou and his new-found American friends decided to play a prank on the girls working on the flower shop by painting all the roses black. It backfired on him, as Liz became really upset over this occurance. While comforting her, one could say that this was really when he began to feel something towards her. Thus, his pranks continued (they were later dubbed Operation Black Roses) as his way of showing his feelings.
After he had finally saved up the money to buy her an engagement ring, Shou had forgotten that he hadn't asked permission from his family to marry her. He hurriedly left for Tokyo to ask, leaving a confused Kokoto to deliver the flower bouquet with ring inside to Liz. For the first time, he was the victim of a prank that Liz pulled on him; the two did marry, and ended up having a son, Ryou.
For Shou, life became peaceful and somewhat boring. He began to be more involved in science shortly after Ryou started, examing fossils that his friend, Shinga Tsukasa, would send him. A few years later, when Shou hadn't gotten very far with these fossils, he hired an exchange student, Akasaka Keiichiro, to help him out with his research on extinct and endangered animals. It was with Keiichiro's help that Jishou began his notes on what would become the Mew Project. He had gotten far with the notes, but not quite far enough, so as a result, he became dangerously engrossed in his work. When a Chimera came to life from a fossil, it was Shou who somehow managed to get everyone out of the mansion. He wasn't able to save himself, so he died within the fire.
Kokoro Days
Using his uncle's notes, Shou's nephew, a counterpart of Shirogane Shuugo, decided to start a new Mew Project in the states. Like the one back in Japan, it was successful, with an unintended side effect: Jishou was among those revived from the Mew Aqua. Found by Mizuhara Max and the family dog, D-kun, Jishou was taken in by Max. However, as a result of being revived from beyond, he had forgotten everything about the past he left behind. The only things he remembered were a flower shop and the name 'Beaumont'. Believing that 'Beaumont' was indeed his own surname, he took the name 'James Beaumont' for the time being.
Shortly after he became re-acquainted with New York, Jishou set out to find the flower shop he remembered. He found it, all right, but it was in a dismal state. Somehow, he managed to fix up the place, and restored it to its former glory with the help of Kotoko, Max's wife. Life went on as peacefully as possible, though Shou was constantly uneasy as more memories decided to come back to him in bits and pieces. Some of them were fine, such as his inability to cook, but there was always one that he didn't want to remember: the flickering of flames.
Six months after he started working at the flower shop, he encountered two people who seemed oddly familiar, though in the case of the teenager, not at all familiar. This teenager insisted on taking him to see Mizuhara Kin, a memory mage. Seeing as he had no other choice in the matter, he agreed. Shou didn't want to admit it, but maybe she was able to see what other memories were there beneath it all...
Kin didn't really help too much in Shou's opinion, as she recoiled back, murmuring that the pain was too much for her. He couldn't help but notice, however, that the blond teenager right next to him seemed to be sure of who Shou was. The two left that night.
It took Shou a while to get himself ready to head back to Japan, as he was sure now that Japan was the final link to his memories. Leaving the spare keys to Kotoko, Jishou headed for Japan, moving into an apartment about twenty minutes away from Cafe Mew Mew.
A lot happened while Shou tried to regain his memories: he found that his Japanese was a lot more fluent than his English, for one thing. As he spent more time with the people in the cafe, he seemed to only be certain of one thing - that the people within are crazy. However, while his memories were still being regained, he seemed to hold a certain belief that Shirogane Shuugo and Ryou were his nephews, if only because he couldn't imagine his own son dressing in the fashion that Ryou had been for the past few years. As for Shuugo, he actually had hit the nail on the head, but it was the wrong dimension. Ironically, he seemed to believe that Shirogane Kyr was his son at the same time. The only real thing he remembered about his family was that Liz was his wife.
About two nights before Shou truly remembered that Ryou was his real son, the adult gave Ryou the crown necklace he had worn around his neck, stating that he thought that Ryou needed it more. Since he'd yet to realize how Ryou was really related to him, Shou had yet to realize the full impact of the possession.
He did finally remember, though, and all soon became well, except that he still lives in an apartment (this time, the apartment is only ten minutes away), with Shuugo and Kyr occasionally staying over for the night. While he dislikes the state of array that his family's in, Shou seems to hold a belief that he can't do much about it at the moment.

Trivia
- His personality was actually based off Saica's own father, but a bit more exaggerated with the pranks and quite not as much confidence.
- Believe it or not, since Saica has yet to watch the anime, Shou was completely based off what she thought his manga counterpart would look like (and a little bit of Shuu), hence why he looks so different in Kokoro, compared to the anime.
