In the beginning there was ambiguity as to the fate of Momomiya Ichigo. The staff played back and forth with Ichigo's relations with several boys, but the manga of Tokyo Mew Mew ended up with Aoyama Masaya and Momomiya Ichigo staying together, as Ikumi Mia and Yoshida Reiko wanted it. Because they are an established couple, the couple itself is condered canon.

The animators decided to hint at several other pairings when working on the television series, this included writing in Midorikawa Retasu's crush on Shirogane Ryou. It is not known if Ryou returns these feelings or not, but there are some people who consider this canon in the anime and believe that Ryou does indeed have feelings for the girl.

Additionally, there was one filler episode where Akasaka Keiichiro's ex-girlfriend Nishina Rei was introduced. It was made canon in Mirror, even though in that same filler, it was said that it could never happen, although in the dubbed version the posibility was left open.

There is also evidence to support Fujiwara Zakuro and Aizawa Minto, the latter who practically worships the model. In many manga illustrations the two are seen together. This pairing is also apparent in the English dub. There is some debate as to whether or not it is canon, but a majority of fans seem to believe that it is.

Huang Bu-ling (Fon Purin) and Taruto are also considered a canon couple. The fan community is overwhelmingly supportive of these two, even though Bu-ling especially seems to be too young to understand what love is, and sees Taruto as a friend.

After Yoshida Reiko had left the staff, Ikumi Mia created a sequel to the manga called "a la mode" which was retconned to more closely resemble things in the anime. This continuation features Shirayuki Berii and Meguro Tasuku who were childhood friends, and another canon couple.
