Otto Wels

Otto Wels (September 15, 1873, Berlin – ) is one of the leaders of the Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (Social Democratic Party of Germany). (SPD) and a member of parliament from 1920.

Wels was the son of an innkeeper in Berlin. In 1891 he joined the SPD and the same time he began an apprenticeship as an upholsterer. After completing the apprenticeship he worked in Berlin, Regensburg and Munich . From 1895 to 1897 he provided military service . Wels attended the Party school of the SPD in 1906 and began full-time basis to engage politically. He was also active in German Unions. From 1907 he served as party secretary in Brandenburg , while in the commission of the Press Forward . His party's work was successful so that he in 1912 for the constituency Calau - Luckau in the Reichstag , and a year later moved to the proposal by August Bebel in the SPD party executive changed.
