Konrad Adenauer

Konrad Hermann Josef Adenauer (born on January, 5 1876 in Cologne, Germany) is a German politician. Member of the Deutsche Zentrumspartei, he is the current Mayor of Cologne.
Biography
Born in Cologne, the third of the five children of Joseph Konrad Adenauer and his wife Helene, Adenauer completed his Abitur in 1894 and started to study law and politics at the universities of Freiburg, Munich and Bonn. He was a member of several Roman Catholic students’ associations under the K.St.V. Arminia Bonn in Bonn. He finished his studies in 1901. Afterwards he worked as a lawyer at the court in Cologne. As a devout Roman Catholic, he joined the Zentrumspartei in 1906 and was elected to Cologne’s city council in the same year. In 1909, he became Vice-Mayor of Cologne. Since 1917, he serves as Mayor of Cologne. Despite accusations Rhenish separatism, he is a prominent member of the Prussian State Council since 1922. He supports the thesis of Austrian Count Richard von Coudenhove-Kalergi over the need of a true and pacific European Union, and often expressed that he would like to see a German reconciliation with National France to counter the threat of the Commune of France, making him some sort of marginalized politician in Germany.
