Coffee prevent diabetes Coffee prevent diabetes new study re

,

Scientists have long known that coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing , but researchers out of China may have figured out why.

Researchers Ling Zheng,, of Wuhan University, and Kun Huang, of Huazhong University of Science and Technology,, have found that compounds in coffee inhibit hIAPP (human islet amyloid polypeptide), a substance linked to diabetes. Their study appeared in a recent issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Prior global epidemiological studies have shown that those who drink four or more cups of coffee a day have a 50 percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes,, the most prevalent type of diabetes accounting for 95 percent of all cases. Every additional cup reduces the risk by an additional 7 percent.

Scientists looking for ways to prevent diabetes have been investigating ways to block hIAPP,, which is present in high levels in the pancreases of those with the disease. Zheng and Huang decided to study whether coffee was doing that.

They analyzed the effects of the major active compounds in coffee, including caffeic acid and caffeine, on hIAPP, and found it inhibited hIAPP significantly. "These findings suggest that the beneficial effects of coffee consumption on type 2 diabetes may be partly due to the ability of major coffee components to inhibit the toxic aggression of hIAPP," the authors concluded.

"A beneficial effect may thus be expected in regular coffee drinkers," they said.

Help wanted

You don’t need to be a car buff to enjoy the Chicago Auto Show taking place Friday through Feb. 19 at McCormick Place. The 104th edition of the show will once again feature several Chicago athletes appearing on behalf of various manufacturers.

Guests can line up to meet the Bears’ Earl Bennett Friday and Feb. 18, the Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews Sunday (maybe you’ve seen their Chevy commercials?) and the Bulls’ Joakim Noah and Ronnie Brewer Feb. 17 and Feb. 19,, respectively.

Manufacturers will likely book more celebrity appearances at the last minute,, as in years past. Each will have its own set of rules for the meet-and-greets. Chevy is limiting fans to one autographed item and no personal photos during Kane and Toews’ appearance, but other manufacturers might be more lenient.

“(Blackhawks legend) Bobby Hull was here last year with Bridgestone and he signed everything but the dinner check,” said Paul Brian, spokesman for the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, which produces the Auto Show.

Guests likely won’t see any cars from the entertainment world such as the Batmobile or Bumblebee from “Transformers.” Brian said you’re more likely to see those sort of cars at World of Wheels, set for March 2-4 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. But the Auto Show has featured its share of stars from the entertainment industry, including actors Kevin Bacon and Anthony Edwards,, singers Cyndi Lauper and Kelis, and “Entertainment Tonight” host Nancy O’Dell.

“Cyndi Lauper danced on the hood of a Mercedes SL when she performed at First Look For Charity (in 2004),” Brian recalled. “She dug her heels into the aluminum and left her heel prints. They had to replace the whole hood of the car.”

Heroes may inspire — but it's the scalawags,, the rogues,, the blackguards and the mountebanks who captivate. In an aphorism that I've taken to quoting almost hourly,, because it so perfectly expresses our propensity to embrace the bad boys and to admire but quickly grow bored with the saints,, Mark Twain once noted, "Heaven for the climate,, hell for the company."

Change of Subject With 911 tapes, privacy trumps public inte

I think of these questions every time I hear such sound bites on the news--pretty often, actually--and I try to respond like a journalist:

"The public has a strong interest in knowing how well emergency operators respond," said Rebecca Daugherty, Freedom of Information Service Center director for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in Arlington, Va., a group that opposes restrictions on the dissemination of 911 recordings.

"The distress [in the voices] also helps the public understand the crime itself," she said. "It's somewhat sensational, but then so is murder."

And,, Daugherty said, "When you use 911, you are using a public service. It's not a private matter. You're asking for governmental help of some sort. That certainly mitigates against the privacy argument."

But I find myself responding like a potential victim:

If I or anyone in my family should ever have occasion to call 911 in a dazed, blubbering panic, would I want that tape played on radio and--with helpful subtitles to translate the less coherent exclamations into grammatical English--television? Probably not. And definitely not without our permission.

Certainly the public does not want police emergency-response systems operating in secret, and certainly reporters should always have access to the transcripts, if not the tapes.

But the identities and addresses of the callers should remain as confidential as medical records. And barring an overriding public interest in specific cases, their voices should not be aired without their consent.

Laws and police practice on the release of 911 tapes vary widely from state to state. Illinois statutes are vague,, allowing tapes to be released to the media unless the release would cause a "clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy."

But exactly what those words mean "has never really been tested in our courts," according to Springfield attorney Donald M. Craven,, the general counsel for several statewide media associations.

Grayslake village trustee Paul Reblin says he's planning to lobby state lawmakers to craft restrictions on the dissemination of 911 tapes. He was moved to disgust, he said, when he heard the "horrific" tape of the hysterical 911 call placed by his work associate,, Nikolai Vasilev of Hoffman Estates, when he arrived home April 27 to discover his two children dying of hundreds of stab wounds, allegedly inflicted by his wife.

"There was no point in playing that tape other than pure exploitation," said Reblin. "It served no good purpose. It might even have been a deterrent to calling 911 in the future. Someone might stop and think, `Wait! I don't want this aired.'"

Doubtful. Most people aren't thinking about privacy or long-term consequences when they call for help. They're barely thinking at all in most cases. They're half mad with grief,, shock and fear.

To exploit them is a disgrace. To protect them, a duty.

What easily could show you some software,, that will let you to produce beats on the computer, as quick and easy when you can put your socks on inside morning? You probably have searched the world wide web how you need to make electronic music. If so, you must have learned that there really are a few bits bobs of advice and guidance here and there, there's definitely not tips to the new and upcoming players on how you can actually get started step by step. This is mostly if you would like to create music just like the big boys, say Pharrell or Just Blaze, you would need a professional studio to even get close towards the same amount of quality.

This is where it is quite complicated for ordinary people like you together with me. Should you have the moolah required, too since the time to learn all there's to understand about music production and beat creation, If only all of you the best with your new, but expensive hobby,! So it can be a good question you consider if you say: "How can I start making quality music that matches within my budget?" I'm glad you asked! I will be very happy to show you about this great beat making software I came across. What you may need is often a Digital Audio Workstation. To be more exact, you will need a Digital Audio Workstation that gives the functionality of your professional recording studioThese days it is incredibly popular, I might add. The reason that it can be so popular is it provides you an awesome solution: You'll find a way to now make your personal beats at home with out to construct a major studio. And it can be super simple to use!

Maybe you're familiar with other software products out there, like Cubase,, Logic and Reason, Fruity Loops, simply to name a few. And don't get me wrong, they really are excellent programs. Finished . is they're definately not cheap. Also, you will need to know how to work together and have knowledge of music production in general. So a lot easier, cheaper, along with my eyes better solution is always that Digital Audio Workstation I mentioned earlier. And trust me, you will not likely believe how easy it is.

Obviously, it can be up for you what type of music you want to create. Whatever your chosen genre is, you can create is! That's the sweetness of it. And the standard is merely remarkable! Nobody will guess you did it in your computer at home.
