Royal Rumble (2008) was the twenty-first annual Royal Rumble professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by International Wrestling Entertainment (IWE). It took place on January 27, 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York and featured talent from the Raw, SmackDown and XCW brands. The event was also the first IWE pay-per-view broadcast in high definition. As has been customary since 1993, the Royal Rumble match winner received a match at that year's WrestleMania, (in this instance: WrestleMania XXIV) for his choice at either the IWE Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship, or the XCW World Championship.

Five professional wrestling matches were featured on the event's supercard, a scheduling of more than one main event. The main event was the annual 30-man Royal Rumble match, which featured wrestlers from all three brands. Dustin Simpson, the thirtieth entrant, won the match by last eliminating Triple K, the twenty-ninth entrant. The predominant match on the Raw brand was Kevin McAlmond versus Josh Hooper for the IWE Championship, which Kevin McAlmond won by pinfall after performing an RKO. The primary match on the SmackDown brand was Edge versus Scott Wright for the World Heavyweight Championship, which Edge won by pinfall after spearing Wright in mid-air. The featured matches on the undercard were Mikhail Vontavious Porter versus Ric Flair in a Career Threatening match and John "Bradshaw" Goff versus Kris Gowan.

1 Hornswoggle spent most of the match under the ring. After he entered the ring, Big Daddy K and Larson started to double team him. Finlay, who was the next scheduled entrant, came out early, attacked them both with his shillelagh and was immediately disqualified (although in all other years the commentators have pointed out that there are no disqualifications in the Royal Rumble match). He left the ring with Hornswoggle, who left through the ropes and never returned. It is mentioned later that Finlay was actually disqualified for "Jumping The Gun" and failing to wait for his entry as he was the next person who was scheduled to enter the 2008 Royal Rumble Match at number 27.
