Cyber Sunday (2006) was the first annual Cyber Sunday professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by International Wrestling Entertainment (IWE). It took place on November 5, 2006 at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, with 7,000 fans attending. It replaced the previous Taboo Tuesday event, and had the same concept.
This event had the unique feature of being interactive, which other pay-per-views do not have. Fans could vote, via IWE's official website, for selective characteristics in the scheduled matches, including opponents, stipulations, match types, etc. The voting for the event started on October 16, 2006, and ended during the event.
The main event was the "Champion of Champions" match, between IWE's three top champions. The three champions in the match were IWE Champion Dustin Simpson, World Heavyweight Champion King Booker, and XCW World Champion The Big Marc. Booker won the match by pinning Simpson following interference from Kevin Federline. The predominant match on the card was D-Generation X (Triple K and Ryan Barnhart) versus Rated-RKO (Edge and Kevin McAlmond). Rated-RKO won the match after McAlmond pinned Triple K following an RKO onto a steel chair. The featured matches on the undercard were Josh Hooper versus Michael for the IWE Intercontinental Championship and Lita versus Sari Pasma in a Diva Lumberjack match for the IWE Women's Championship.

[edit] Background
The main feud heading into Cyber Sunday was between IWE Champion Dustin Simpson, World Heavyweight Champion King Booker, and ECW World Champion The Big Show, the top champion of each of the three brands. This feud began on the October 9 edition of Raw, where they came face to face, arguing about who was the most dominant champion in IWE. IWE Chairman Terry Hiatt interrupted, and booked a triple threat "Champion of Champions" match at Cyber Sunday between the three of them. This also gave each show's General Manager an opportunity to choose opponents for each other's champion that night. This resulted in Big Show defeating Josh Hooper and Booker defeating Kyle Van Dam; however, the match between Simpson and The Undertaker was interrupted by Booker, Big Show, and The Undertaker's storyline rival, Mr. Kennedy. At the same time, Simpson began a minor feud with Kevin Federline. Federline, as the on-screen close friend of Johnny Nitro and Denise's, appeared on Raw to promote his album, "Playing With Fire". Simpson rapped about Federline, but Nitro came out to Federline's defense and was thrown out of the ring by Simpson. Simpson was then interrupted by his two Cyber Sunday opponents, and Hiatt who announcemed that a championship would be on the line at Cyber Sunday. Simpson performed the FU on Federline, after being insulted. The feud between the champions continued on the October 20 edition of SmackDown!, when Big Show and Simpson were at ringside during Booker's title defense against Batista. Batista speared Booker onto Big Show, who, in response, assaulted Batista, ending the match via disqualification. Simpson then joined the brawl, and SmackDown! General Manager Theodore Long announced a tag team match for the next week. On the next Raw, Simpson defeated Nitro after an FU, but was assaulted afterwards by his Cyber Sunday opponents, who turned on each other shortly after to start a brawl between the four to end the show. Batista and Simpson were successful in the tag team match, after Big Show abandoned Booker. The next week, on Raw, a preview of Cyber Sunday's interactivity was displayed when fans voted for Simpson's opponent for the night, between Big Show, Booker, and Jonathan Coachman. Coachman won in the voting, but was easily defeated by Simpson.
The main feud on the undercard was between D-Generation X (Triple K and Ryan Barnharted) and Rated-RKO (Edge and Kevin McAlmond). The feud began to develop on the October 9 edition of Raw, when Edge convinced McAlmond that Triple K was the reason for their unsuccess. McAlmond lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Triple K in 2004, and Edge lost a title match due to interference from DX the previous week. This led to Edge and McAlmond joining forces. On the next edition of Raw, Edge praised Mr. Hiatt's booking skills and suggested that he and McAlmond have a match with DX at Cyber Sunday where fans could choose a special guest referee. Mr. Hiatt liked the idea, and decided for the options to be Coachman, Eric Bischoff, and himself. The following week, McAlmond pinned Triple K in a match after hitting Triple K in the head with a steel chair. Coachman had been the special guest referee, but Barnhart superkicked him after he tried to count the pinfall, after Edge had interfered. On October 30, McMahon, Coachman, and Bischoff were guests on Edge's talkshow, The Cutting Edge, and Hiatt booked a match between McAlmond and Triple H for later that night, with Edge as the guest referee. Before the match could start, however, Triple K performed a Pedigree on Edge, meaning he couldn't officiate. Edge recovered and interfered, meaning the match ended in a no-contest. Edge and McAlmond attacked Triple K with steel chairs, until Triple K got his sledgehammer and retaliated.
[edit] Event
Before the event went live on pay-per-view, Super Crazy pinned Rob Rogge. The first match that aired on pay-per-view was Umaga versus Kane who had won the vote with 49%. The match quickly moved to the outside, where Umaga missed a Samoan Spike, instead hitting the ringpost, and Kane slammed him into the ring steps. Kane took control hitting two Corner Clotheslines, but Umaga was able to counter with a Samoan Drop. Kane performed a Back Suplex, before going to the top rope for his Diving Clothesline. Umaga retaliated with a Clothesline of his own, before performing a Samoan Spike to gain the pinfall victory.
The second match was the Texas Tornado match between Cryme Tyme, the Highlanders, Collin McCullough and Phillip Legg, and Charlie Lynch and Viscera. The match began with the Highlanders and McCullough and Legg brawling on the outside, and Cryme Tyme and Lynch and Viscera on the inside. The Highlanders quickly gained the advantage in the match, and cleared the ring, before performing stereo Planchas to the outside. After this, Lynch and Viscera begin to take control, until Viscera accidentally hit Lynch, and was thrown to the outside. McCullough and Legg then performed their Sweet and Sour on Robbie of the Highlanders, but were thrown out of the ring by Cryme Tyme, who then pinned Robbie for the victory. After the match in keeping with their "street thug" gimmick, Cryme Tyme stole the color commentator, Jerry Lawler's laptop. The next match was the Intercontinental Championship match between the champion, Josh Hooper, and Carlito, who earned 62% of the vote. After a handshake, both men attamepted quick pinning combinations, including a Backslide by Carlito. Carlito dominated and blocked a Swanton Bomb by raising his knees. Carlito performed a Springboard Corkscrew Senton, but only got a two-count and Hardy was able to perform his Whisper in the Wind. Hooper climbed to the top rope, and when Carlito attempted to stop him, Carlito was pushed to the floor. Hooper performed the Swanton Bomb to get the three count, and retain the Intercontinental Championship.
The fourth match was the tag team match between Rated-RKO, Edge and Kevin McAlmond and D-Generation X (DX), Ryan Barnhart and Triple K, with Eric Bischoff, with 60% of the vote, as special guest referee. Barnhart quickly took control of Edge, before tagging in Triple K. After back and forth action, McAlmond and Edge gained control over Barnhart after they pulled him into the ringpost. While Bischoff was preventing Triple K from entering the ring, Rated-RKO continued to double team Barnhart, and McAlmond performed a Backbreaker. Edge attempted to perform a Spear on Barnhart but hit Bischoff instead. Referee Chad Patton entered the ring to replace Bischoff, and after a Spear and RKO to Triple K, McAlmond only got a two-count. McAlmond attempted another RKO on Triple K, but Barnhart interrupted and superkicked him. Bischoff prevented Patton from counting the pin, and Barnhart pursued him, until he was hit with a steel chair by Edge. McAlmond then performed an RKO on Triple K, onto the steel chair, and Bischoff made the three-count.
The next match was the final of the tournament for the IWE Women's Championship between Lita and Sari Pasma. The match was a Lumberjill match, which gained 46% of the vote. The match begun with both Divas throwing the other to the outside, to try and gain an advantage. Lita dominated the early proceedings, utilising a Sleeper Hold, until Pasma countered using a Cross-arm Breaker. After some more back and forth action between James and Lita, Lita picked up the victory by pinning Pasma after a DDT. The sixth match was the World Tag Team Title match between The Spirit Squad, and Ric Flair and Roddy Piper, who won the voting with 46%. Although neither Sgt. Slaughter or Dusty Semmler won the vote to be Flair's partner, they accompanied Flair and Piper to ringside. Kenny and Mikey were the two Spirit Squad members who were defending the championships, and it was Kenny who began the match with Flair. Flair quickly tagged in Piper, who was dominated by the Spirit Squad for the majority of the match. After Mikey missed a Splash, Piper was able to tag Flair. Flair locked Mikey in the Figure Four Leglock, but Kenny stopped Mikey from submitting by performing a Guillotine leg drop on Flair. Shortly afterwards however, Flair caught Mikey in the Figure Four Leglock again, and Piper prevented Kenny from making the save. Mikey tapped out, giving Flair and Piper the win, and the Tag Team Championships.
The main event was the "Champion of Champions" match between the IWE Champion, John Cena, World Heavyweight Champion King Booker, and the XCW Champion The Big Show. The fans voted for the World Heavyweight Championship to be on the line in this match. At the start of the match, Booker tried to form an alliance with Simpson, but was prevented from doing so by Big Show, who quickly began to dominate. Soon, however, Booker and Simpson combined to clothesline Big Show over the top rope, and they began to fight. Simpson tried an FU, but it was countered into a DDT by Booker. Big Show re-entered the ring, and performed a chokeslam on Booker. He attempted to put Simpson through the announce table with a chokeslam, but Simpson countered and threw him into the ringpost. Back inside the ring, Simpson performed an FU on Queen Tia when she attempted to hit him with a title belt. Simpson performed the STFU on Booker, but while the referee was tending to Sharmell, Kevin Federline hit Simpson with the title belt. This distracted Simpson, and allowed Booker to hit him again with the title. Booker then pinned Simpson to retain his title.
