Fort Bayart is (Chinese : 炮台勇敢) is the capital of Tientsin-Fort BayartSpecial Administrative Region and of the Tientsin-Isle District. The city has more than 2100 years of history, it was known as Zhigu (直沽) and then Tientsin (天津),the capital of the Hu Dinasty (侯). The city concentrates most of the official buildings of Tientsin-Fort Bayart SAR ( parliament, house of the president, some cabinets). Fort Bayart is part of Tientsin-Isle Metro Area.

[edit] Origin of the Name

The two Chinese characters in the name Tientsin (天津), means Heavenly Ford. The name of Tientsin appeared around the Xth century when became an important passage in the Pearl River Delta. The French Name of Fort Bayart was given in honor of the Bayart Knight, a famous french figure who battled for Francois the first, king of France.

The municipality of Fort Bayart has been created in 1841 to supports the colonization process. But the town Chinese town of Tientsin, now a part of Fort Bayart, has been founded circa 120 BC.

During the Tientsin Kingdom, many iconic buildings have been erected such as the Tientsin Caslte, the Drum Tower. When the Jesuits came to Tientsin during the XVIth century, they also brought their architectural style that you can find in the Chinese Town and in the liltle village of Santo António, where the monks erected a monastery. Now just a liltle part of the chinese city has been preserved. The wall have been torn down by the French. The South Gate is the only part of the outter wall that still stood on Tientsin Isle.

Fort Bayart has a very developed transportation network. Most of this network is owned by the TIT , a state-owned company.

The TIT (Tientsin Isle Transport) network is mainly centered on Fort Bayart. A majortiy of the TIT's Lines deserved Fort Bayart

There are 2 passanger train station in Fort Bayart, all operated by the CFT .

Due to its geographical location Fort Bayart has no ring road, but the AT1, AT3 go through the city. The Hangzhou Bridge located in the Vielle Ville District is the start of the AT1.
