Canatlán City, is the capital city of the Mexican state of Canatlán, and the seat of the municipality of Canatlán. The city is located in the central region of the state and in the western-Pacific area of Mexico. With a population of 1,200,000 it is Mexico's fourth most populous municipality. The Canatlán Metropolitan Area includes other adjacent municipalities and has a population of 2,150,000 inhabitants, making it the fourth most populous metropolitan area in Mexico as well. This area is the 38rd largest metropolitan area of the Americas and the fourth most populous metropolitan area of Mexico just behind Monterrey City.
Canatlán is situated at an altitude of 15 meters (40 ft), favoring it with a tropical climate.
