[edit] Issues with crashing
- Now mostly resolved for Inventor 11, when SP1 and all hotfixes are installed
- Loading multiple parts into the system bogs it down and can make working with the model unwieldy.
- If an idw is open and referencing a 'design representation' of an assembly. That assembly cannot be open on another design representation. You are locked out of doing any changes or updates and saving them.
- Opening files from MS Explorer can cause unexpected Inventor crashes - may be due to files needing to update correctly.
[edit] Inventor 11 teething issues
- Works a bit differently from Inventor 10. Mike Ponti was required to do updates to both the BOM Upload section and the Drawing Release section.
- Have issues running both Inventor 10 and 11 at the same time. Must close one and re-register the new one to work correctly.
- Welds not working correctly so they are not shown on all drawings. Only weld notes.
- Some PDMS parts in Inventor 11, most people still using Inventor 10.
- If an assembly uses v10 hardware from PDMS, you cannot use “design assistant” on an assembly to easily rename or copy files. Mass version switching of PDMS parts will need to be done once everyone is on Inventor 11.
[edit] Issues, Improvements, Further Work
- Revision control is more complicated - the data is kept with the part or assembly and copied over to the drawing for release.
- BOM adjustments need a better methodology if zero-ing out a BOM quantity.
- PDMS Standard Parts are not all in system. Many CPRs are required to add parts as necessary for a project. (Takes much time, especially when having to switch over to Inventor 10)
- Devronizer Baseline needs complete machine frame modeled. Flexibility needs to be added to skeleton sketches for starting a fresh design.
- Baseline pivot retraction
- Peer review of submitted Inventor parts to PDMS needs to be implemented.
- Dimension styles, revision block, and BOM block are a mess. Time needs to be spent on formatting.
- Inventor 11 needs to be installed and updated on all machines.
- Access to files by fabrication and purchasing - is DWF good enough?
[edit] Training
