Since the .co.uk server began in Feb 05 a number of IK 'folklore' fan fiction stories and legends of the game emerged, most of those below are taken from the inselkampfnews site [www.freewebs.com/inselnews]

Mythology if inselkampf

  1. In the beginning there was nothing, no seas, no oceans, no islands. Then Sven came from the realm or Irl.
  1. And he composed the music. The music was simple, it was 1s and it 0s, it was ons and it was offs, it was blacks and it was whites.
  1. But the music went on, and the music grew louder and in the 1s and the 0s patterns emerged, and melodies came.
  1. Then as the music grew louder and more complex, it stopped
  1. And there was the ocean vast and blue.
  1. And then an island appeared.
  1. And on the island was created an Insel, small and black. And he built a house of stone.
  1. Other insels emerged from the music around him but they knew not what to do.
  1. Sven looked and saw, that the insels knew not what to do and was dismayed.
  1. Sven said ?there are others from the realm of Irl and I will ask them to come and rule you and guide you'.
  1. And Sven said "lo I will give you wood and gold on the islands so that you may build ships, and spears, and bows, so that you may hunt and fish in my ocean"
  1. And then the rulers came from irl and with each new ruler a new island appeared.
  1. But the rulers were not content and the insels demanded more land and more islands and so Sven set forth music and gave them empty islands so that they may live in peace.
  1. And Sven gave the rulers seeing stones so they may talk to each other and make peace and trade.
  1. But the insels were demanding, and their rulers more so, and they coveted their neighbours islands and wealth and made petty wars.
  1. As the oceans grew busier and more rulers came and more insels were born, and still the insels and the rulers lusted for more and so the war which never ended came, and the Kampf began.
  1. And it has not ended.
