February 19, 2008 Class Summary: We officially started using wiki for class rather than our yahoo account. Wiki provides an open source experience and conveys the overall understanding of the role of collaboration in innovation. Our in depth researching on IDEO has begun. The class will begin looking at how our own minds work. This includes exercises to explore self-awareness, our limitations, and our perceptions.

IDEO Reflections As I looked at the IDEO site I continuously thought that they are always taking things one step further. They do not put in 100% they put in 101%. Everything they do from their immersion environments to the way they organize their employees into teams is based on a purpose and a plan. Another aspect of IDEO that is worth noting is that they are constantly changing. Success is a continuous journey and IDEO evolves based on their successes (and most likely failures too). IDEO utilizes a vast range of resources and does not discriminate against "wrong choices" or "bad ideas". They are truly an innovative company.

oh and check out their job listing "requirements"

-a fan of design -hungry to learn -a natural communicator -etc... -only 4 of the 10 requirements involve an actual skill a person can learn. (IDEO understands that innovation does not only come from a tool box of skills)

Innovation Blogs:

1. http://imaginatikre search.blogspot. com/ -This blog is about providing people with information and insight on innovation; however, the site is inactive and only includes older blogs (it is still interesting though). -I chose this blog because it was one of the first blogs about innovation, which is pretty innovative in itself, eh?

2. http://mass- customization. blogs.com/ -This blog is about everything.. ."notes and ideas on mass customization, personalization, customer integration, and open innovation." -I chose this blog because of how vast the selection of information and topics it includes.

3. http://artsofinnova tion.wordpress. com/ -This blog is about what is going concerning innovation now-more news esque. -I chose it because it gets to the point and seems to have reliable information.

4. http://www.innovati onjournalism. org/blog/ -This blog is about innovations in the field of journalism. -I chose it becuase I am a journalism major and hope to have a career in this field one day.

5. http://www.itif. org/?q=blog -This blog it is not solely a blog but also focuses on ITS information and reports as well. -I chose it becuase ITS is changing the way our world works and is extremely important to innovaiton.

6. http://brentblog. typepad.com/ -This blog is about science and innovation. -I chose it becuase Brent Edwards' background with his scientific research is interesting. (you must subscribe to the blog to see more)

7. http://venture2. typepad.com/ -This blog is about providing advice about business innovation related topics. -I chose it becuase the author, Mike Docherty blogs about his own experiences in the business field and gives is honest opinion/advice.

8. http://business- model-design. blogspot. com/ -This blog is about how to create innovative business models. -I chose it becuase at first I thought it was full of bull shit, but was surprised to read some interesting blogs such as the blog about Ireland.

9. http://www.ssirevie w.org/opinion/ -This blog is about innovation concerning nonprofit organizations. -I chose it becuase I usually would not think of innovation and nonprofits/socially responsible business together at first (I usually think of technology, or businesses like 3M, Apply, etc...)

10. http://blog. brainstore. com/ -This blog is about innovation on every topic imaginable. -I chose it becuase once again I was surprised to see "innovation" in so many different fields. I am not certain I would classify as all of the blog topics as "innovative" but the New York Times blog is very interesting.
