Nesrin was born in Turkey to a very wealthy sheik and his concubine. She was raised with hundreds of her siblings and generally kept in one large section of the house, rarely going outside or seeing other people. She rarely saw her father, and never saw any other men.

She first learned that she had The Sight when her spirit guide, Serkan, first made contact with her. She was ten at the time. Soon, under his guidance, she was able to make her first prediction: the assassination of her father by her fiancée. Her father the sheik waited at night for the assassin’s arrival and much to his amazement, met the man he intended to give Nesrin away to. He killed Nesrin’s fiancée and instead gave her permission to leave the palace they lived in to seek education to further her abilities.

She set out with only Serkan as her guide and found residence in Great Britain, working only as a fortune teller. Nesrin does not usually talk very much about this part of her life, for whatever reason.

Although she had no credentials from any school at all they were hard pressed to find some one better. She spent the next 9 years with the centaurs living right in the Forbidden Forest, next to Hogwarts.

It was given to her because Nesrin presented a real way for students to learn divination - centaur divination - without using the crackpotted methods many frauds claimed to use. However, since centaur divination was looked down upon by a lot of Ministry officials who believed centaurs to be inferiror beings, her methods were kept a school secret.

Nesrin Berkant is of small stature, like most of the women from the far away lands where she originates. She has very long and thick black hair which she often wears tied back as opposed to freely. Her large eyes are a very pretty grey and rather heavy lidded. Her skin is delicately tanned. Her features are very rounded, although her jaw is somewhat angular.

The fourteen year old Nesrin was scared and desperate for a way out, so she agreed to his way out of it. He told her that he could make it appear as if she had the Sight, and that her father would cancel her plans for marriage and send her to the UK to continue her studies. Of course, the Sight he was going to make it seem like she had would come at a price. However, he told her that he would name his price later, and that she must promise to give him anything he asked for in the future. She didn’t believe him at first and refused. Later that day, his prediction turned out to be true, and she rushed back to the garden where she had found him only to find him no longer there. Just when she was about to leave, Serkan appeared and told her that the deal was still open. In an act of desperation, she accepted.

She wears very graceful robes and traditional clothes of her native country. Her mouth is often covered, and on frequent occasion so is her hair (although due to her exposure to Great Britain she has become less strict about that). Her favorite colors are dark reds, purples, and blues but for certain occasions she will wear other colors. In cold weather she can occasionally be talked into wearing a long gown and cloak – but she’d rather stay up in her Divination loft than walk around in public wearing that.

Nesrin has a very quiet and demure personality. She never speaks over what people would call "an indoor voice", even when reprimanding a student. She's very loving and understanding but also somewhat strict in other aspects.

Just as Serkan had predicted, as soon as Nesrin proved that she had the Sight, her father sent her away to the UK to study. Serkan accompanied Nesrin there where they stayed in a condominium in Liverpool and he taught her more advanced magic. It was there that Nesrin quickly learned that she had made a deal with a vampire – a rather old and dangerous vampire who was not registered with any Ministry or Government in existence. The thought frightened her a bit, but more than that, she felt tricked. She wouldn’t let him know that she felt deceived though – so instead she was quiet and did as he asked, excelling in Charms and Transfiguration. To bring in some money, Nesrin opened a parlor where she used Serkan’s Sight – given to her through Legilimens – to give people minor predictions.

With other teachers, she is very professional and secluded. She doesn't seek relationships with people, but is still very nice and polite when speaking with anyone. She prefers solitude as opposed to being in large groups, but because of the way she was raised, she knows how to handle being in large groups and handles it quite well.

With her students, she is a bit friendlier. She’s been known to rescue kids in tough situations with Ashford Mansfield, the grounds keeper, to give them lighter sentences. She sees a lot of her students as her children, because she is unable to have her own (although this isn’t something she blatantly advertises). She offers students who need extra help tea and cookies and often buys many of her students birthday presents and Christmas presents.

As an attractive young girl, she found many of her customers were only coming for predictions to see her, and so she would accompany them to lunch or to a small get together with multiple people. One day when she arrived home, Serkan confronted her about these people, asking her if she loved any of them. Nesrin saw that the situation seemed to be bothering him and teased him, taunting him with things like: “What, are you jealous?” and “What do you care, hm?” until he finally snapped at her and stopped her dead in her tracks by telling her that the price of her Sight, and escaping when she was fourteen, was that she marry him. He wanted her because he was a Prince from a family who her own family, although years before even her father was born, had been completely annihilated. He was the last surviving member, and he had given up his ‘pure blood’ to become a vampire and do so. Her family had also tricked him personally, offering one of their own to him as his wife and then withdrawing her once they had secured their new positions. He told her that it wasn’t out of revenge – and that he was merely taking back what was owed to him. Needless to say, Nesrin felt a little more than tricked. Why in the world had he chosen her for this? She refused to go through with the marriage but when Serkan pointed out that had he not done this for her, she would be currently married now, she put aside her anger and agreed. He was right, and she had made a deal with him that she would have to honor. This is why, at the age of sixteen, Nesrin Berkant found herself married to Serkan Berkant.

Nesrin can be seen as weird because sometimes people will catch her seemingly speaking to thin air or to herself. However, people that know her well will just realize that she's speaking to her spirit guide, Serkan. Serkan is a Turkish Prince killed in a skirmish in the early 1900s. She's very close to him, and generally hides him from other people. He's also known to be somewhat destructive towards people he doesn't like.

Despite the fact that Nesrin was most definitely not in love with Serkan, Serkan proved to be a good husband in most aspects. He attempted to make her happy and tried to be romantic on occasion, and always took good care of her. Nesrin also tried to be a good wife, despite the fact that she really didn’t like the position she was in. Still, the two managed to fight fairly often, and even though each fight tended to end in laughs, the tension between them was undeniable. It was hard, because Nesrin knew that every night he was going out to kill people – a practice which she had never really liked to begin with – and that no one could know where he was because he was not only an illegal immigrant (he belonged in Turkey, technically) but also what the Ministry called a “Class A Vampire”, a vampire that killed frequently and left behind no evidence as to who he was. She couldn’t exactly disagree with his lifestyle though – as it was the only one he had, and it had also given her the freedom to choose a career and for the most part, a life of her own.

However, whenever she wished to communicate with Serkan, she had to step outside of Centaur Territory. Knowing what he was, the centaurs hated and feared him, telling Nesrin that she had been cursed in marrying him. At the time, she couldn’t agree more, although their hatred towards her and his face when he learned that they would be spending some time apart was more than enough to make her think twice on her situation. By the time she applied to Hogwarts as a professor eight years later, she was strangely missing her husband’s presence. In fact, the entire reason she left her job with the centaurs, a job she honestly loved, in the first place was so that she could be near him again.

She took up her job at Hogwarts with little difficulty at got along very well with the Headmistress, Keara Mckie. When the Gryffindor Head of House suddenly retired, Nesrin was the one who got the job of Head of House, as Mckie thought that if she had attended Hogwarts, she would have been sorted into Gryffindor. Nesrin actually longs to try on the Sorting Hat to see what it would tell her, but is also afraid to because she knows that her past with Serkan might be enough to drag her into Slytherin. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Slytherins, but they honestly reminded her too much of Serkan and as much as she <strike>loved him</strike> admired him, she didn’t want to be <i>like</i> him. However, unbeknownst to her colleagues, her job at Hogwarts was perfect for her. She had an entire tower all to herself, and at least one room where Serkan could stay all day without being disturbed. That, and he happened to get his hands on a rather nice invisibility cloak, and so as long as he was careful, he could actually roam about when he felt the need. She trusted him to be careful not to reveal his presence. Nesrin knew that he was very stealthy and that if he wanted to avoid people, he would. She spent most of her time in her tower with the excuse that she was shy, which she really was, but in reality she was simply taking care of Serkan. Eventually people took it upon themselves to try and cure Nesrin of her shyness, but it was never enough to really take her away from Serkan. She’s also, despite the fact that no one knows she’s married, managed to fend off any admirers that she’s noticed. Nesrin isn’t the best at uncovering when some one is crushing on her, but she knows that if she doesn’t do it before Serkan does, he may get dangerously jealous. Although Serkan always feeds as far away from Hogwarts as is possible for him, he might deviate from his patterns for one exception. Even though she was fairly certain he had little if any emotional attachment to her, she was fairly certain that he would hurt anyone that tried to make a move on her… or worse. Her first year, her nephew Dante Mithra attended school during her time, and she was protective over him like a mother. Even he had no knowledge of Serkan, but Serkan certainly had knowledge of him, and watched her baby him. Up until the last day on his seventh year, Dante knew he always had some one nearby who he could always turn to and count on, even when he married Freja Verillion against her word. At first she was fiercely against the marriage, but when she saw that he was in love with her, she didn’t have the heart to force him out of it.
