Grading
The IB grade is comprised of four separate components:
- Internal Assessments (Lab reports/Practicals): 24% for both Standard (SL) and Higher (HL) levels.
- Exam Paper 1 - multiple choice questions on the core topics: 20% for both SL and HL.
- Exam Paper 2 - free response questions on the core topics: 32% for SL; 36% for HL.
- Exam Paper 3 - free response questions on the option topics: 24% for SL; 20% for HL.

Option topics
Two option topics are chosen to be studied in addition to the core topics. Both SL and HL study the chosen topics, though Higher Level goes into more detail and covers certain ideas that SL is not required to know.
