Past
Arrika is the result of a tumultuous affair between a renowned highwayman and an innkeeper's daughter. Unlike the legendary ballad, their fates did not meet such an immediately bloody end. The highwayman spirited his lover away and for a brief happy period they lived together in a cottage in the woods north of Rauru Town. He became involved in twisted political and underground affairs, and was slain by assassins; his lover and 8-year-old daughter Arrika were targeted next, their cottage burned as they slept. Arrika escaped the fire and managed to survive as a thief in Castle Town. Trauma caused her natural red Sheikah eyes to fade, but the color resurfaced many years later, along with her memories.
Kobas, the Tantari, and the Ring
Kobas is half Hylian and half Sheikah. He is an accomplished thief, assassin, and spy.
With the help of his close associate, a mage called Rhyss, Kobas perfected a type of dark magic that allowed him to leech life from anyone he chose. He is "immortal" in that sense, and succeeds in living for 362 years.
He finds Arrika when she is little more than a child, and takes her under his wing. She is unaware of the parasitic bond between them for many years, and falls madly and devotedly in love with him. For unknown reasons, though it is suspected he went searching for his lost lover Rebecca on an island across the sea, he disappears when she is 16, leaving her a silver pocket watch on his last day. He does not reappear until she is 19, and she spends those three years searching for him, along with guarding the watch with her life.
Arrika discovers through Seth about the parasitic spell; Seth has known all along, and has one tying him to Rhyss, but was threatened to keep it to himself. Disillusioned, Arrika hunts Kobas down, and with Sakiko's and Seth's help, kills him by burning his heart, as well as the watch, where a crucial piece of his soul resided. She takes his signature silver wolf's ring, but it comes to life and clamps down on her, and she cannot remove it. She learns from Rhyss that a wolf demon resides within it, and Kobas had let it take too much control in his attempts to wield it as a weapon.
A few months after Kobas' death, Arrika retreats to the Tantari, and after two years of training and meditation, masters the demon.
Seth
Seth Crowley is, in effect, Arrika's younger brother.
Seth reveals to Arrika that her entire life with Kobas has been a lie, and from that point on, they hide little from each other, and there is a silent understanding that they will look out for each other.
Seth calls on Arrika after his mother's new husband is assassinated at the wedding. Seth, Arrika, and Dogura venture into the sewers beneath Castle Town in search of the murderer. There, Seth finds out that the murderer was his biological father, Thomas Crowley, and meets Netta.
Sakiko
Arrika's best friend is a pale, silver-haired mage girl called Sakiko. They met when Arrika was searching for money that Seth had stolen from her. Their first impressions of each other didn't go very well. Repeated interactions caused both of their cold exteriors to crack, and she and Sakiko find that they're not as different as they first believed.
Two attempts at bonding through camping trips didn't end very well- In the first, Arrika and Sakiko were attacked by two half-vampire children- Arrika was possessed, killed the children's Hylian mother, and attempted to kill Sakiko. Sakiko barely survived but the near-death situation ultimately strengthened their friendship.
The second attempt at camping took place on one of the Tantari's northern beaches. A seagull stole Arrika's pocket watch and as she chased it slipped from the wet rocks and into the sea. She almost drowned but was saved by Sakiko and Sovelis, who ripped out his metal arm so he wouldn't sink.
Arrika and Sakiko seem to have a curious habit of being romantically interested in the same men, resulting in their many infamous catfights.
Meeting the Tempest
While busking one afternoon in North Castle Town, during a performance by The Oracles, Arrika (17) crosses paths with a blonde mage, Sovelis, who has a prosthetic metal arm. She attempts to ransack his house later that night, but is stopped in the process. They befriend each other, and she convinces him to take her on as his apprentice.
They have a brief romantic affair, and she joins the Chaos side of the war simply because of him. But he disappears one day, out of the blue, and life goes on without him.
At the royal Yuletide Christmas party, Arrika and Sovelis cross paths again, for the first time in years. She gains much-needed closure.
