There are four Basic weapons in HA2: the Deku Staff, Deku Dagger, Deku Sword and, though not really a weapon, Deku Shield. These are the the first items available in Hyrule, and are all obtained at the shop of Quartermaster Hithos at cheap prices!

Dagger
Daggers can only be wielded by Vagabonds, at least, unless a Grunt or a Scholar trains themselves to use it by spending TP on the right skill. It has 5 attack, just like the sword.
Sword
The sword can only be wielded by Grunts, at least, unless a Scholar or Vagabond trains themselves to use it by spending TP on the right skill. Like the dagger, it has 5 attack.
Staff
The staff can only be wielded by Scholars, at least, unless a Vagabond or Grunt trains themselves to use it by spending TP on the right skill. Unlike the other weapons, it has 9 attack, making it the strongest basic weapon.
Shield
The shield is only usable by Grunts and Vagabonds, and adds another 4 points to the defense rating. It occupies a second arm slot along with a weapon, meaning that it cannot be wielded with two-handed weapons.
