Personnel File
Milgar Tannenburg-Strathcona was a Terran male of Anglo-Saxon and Sikh descent. He stood at a height of 6'2 fully grown. His hair was often kept cut to just below maximum regulation length for males and was known for his somewhat flamboyant hairstyles based on late pre-invasion Japanese culture. He remained very slim his entire life, and his weight usually hovered around the 65 kilogram range. Milgar, the most commonly known of the Dukes of Strathcona was an accomplished military commander and considered a tactical genius in his day. He was also a talented fencer.
Personal History
Milgar Tannenburg-Strathcona is perhaps the most important person in the history of humanity. Born to an already famous noble family, he lost both his parents in 2191 to an Antarean surprise attack on the colony of New Ankara when the flagship of the local Fleet picket force, the AWS Lancaster was destroyed near the end stages of the battle. The future Duke of Strathcona was deeply traumatized by the event and confided in his loss to the next duke, his uncle, then-Rear Admiral Eric Tannenburg-Strathcona. It is believed that this shared loss was what moved the elder Strathcona to use his accumulated influence to initiate the first round of Fleet Reforms from 2196 to 2212.
Strathcona joined the fleet at the age of 16 in 2197 and graduated from the Fleet Academy at Hong Kong with exemplary marks. His instructors often praised his ability to tune any unit placed under his control into a far more efficient one. They also had many good things to say for his coolness under stress and genius on a tactical level. Milgar was promoted rapidly after his commission. Most scholars believe that this was not just due to his exemplary service, but also to the patronage of his uncle, who was now First Star Lord.
Milgar quickly secured high rank within the Terran Alliance BattleFleet through a combination of tactical brilliance, bravado, and connections within the admiralty. He commanded the AWS Dragon during the border skirmish at Third Eridani in 2207 as a Leftenant Commander. Soon afterwards, he was awarded the Victoria Cross for his exemplary performance in that battle and was made Commander and system CIC of the Essen System
Essen was the first command which brought him to the attention of the Lords of the Admiralty. His actions at the beginning of the 5th Antarean War led to rapid media exposure and his lionization by the Alliance media. It was at Essen that he would meet several of his future "Inner Circle" including Rebecca Moab, Kethro Wasim and Lafiel Andrews. It is often said that the career of Milgar Strathcona the officer started at the academy, but that the career of Milgar Strathcona the hero started at Essen.
During the 5th Antarean War, Milgar fought in nearly half a dozen major fleet engagements. He and the men and women under his command were awarded a disproportionate number of decorations, perhaps due to the brilliance of their commanding officer and their own individual bravery, or perhaps due to the fact that by this point, the popular media had essentially made him into a national hero, and to deny the "Hero" his "just reward" would have been political suicide for the powers that were.
After the 5th Antarean War ended, Milgar's Uncle, the Duke of Strathcona, gave up his title to his nephew to pursue a political career within the House of Commons. The elder Strathcona would eventually become Prime Minister of the Terran Alliance, while Milgar rose to become commanding officer of the famous 5th Alliance Battlefleet.
After retiring from military life, he pursued and quickly won the supreme political office within the Alliance in a landslide electoral victory, (71%) the greatest in Alliance History. After serving 4 years in office, his militarist policies began to unnerve the Alliance's allies. Unfazed, he coldly ordered a preemptive strike that completely destroyed them. By the home stretch of his 3rd 5 year term, he had grown increasingly popular with the core worlds while the colonies were fanatically opposed. Eventually, Duke Strathcona was gunned down by a team of assassins during a public speech at the age of 62. He lived from 2181 to 2243.
During his time in military service, he had cultivated an inner circle of close allies and subordinates. These protégés eventually shaped the course of the post-alliance world, in particular, his tactical officer; Caius Leonis, Stormraider of Xen.
