(Up to SLUDGE)

SLUDGE is just one of the many adventure game development kits available. Here are some other popular choices, which are worth considering if you fancy making an adventure game but decide that SLUDGE isn't for you.

Contents

AGS

Someone should describe AGS here. All I know is that it's written by Chris Jones, was originally only for DOS, now has a Windows version, is freeware and is very, very popular. And it stands for Adventure Game Studio, which would go some way to explaining why the website is http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/.

Wintermute

Like SLUDGE, Wintermute used to be shareware. Like SLUDGE, Wintermute is now freeware. Like SLUDGE, not as many people use Wintermute as use AGS. However, unlike SLUDGE, Wintermute supports actual proper 3D characters. And there are probably some other differences, too. Check it out at http://dead-code.org/.

Visionaire

Don't know much about this one, to be honest, except that it's German, and I only know that because the website address is http://www.visionaire-online.de/.

Indiana Java

Not terribly powerful, but because your adventure game winds up running using Java, it'll run on a wide range of machines. Here's the website.

AGAST

Another Windows adventure game engine. The site - http://www.allitis.com/agast/ - proudly boasts that it was last updated on Sunday August 24, 2003. Does that mean it's dead? I don't know. It may just be napping.

Others

If you know of any other adventure game creation kits which are available for third party use, add them to this list and the world will love you a little bit more.
