Chatting

In Character (IC)

In Character chat is simple. You just type your text in the chat box normally. This can be seen by those around you, but not by everyone on the server.

Whisper

Whispers have a very low range, and are considered in character. Only those standing very close to you will be able to see this. To initiate a whisper, type the following in your chat box: /w Psst!

Yell

Yells have a larger range than normal In Character chat. Yells are useful in situations where your character is angry, or you need to reach the largest area of people possible. To yell, type the following: /y Hey!

Emotes

An emote represents you doing something. For example, if you wanted to show that you were scratching your head, you could type the following: /me scratches his head. This would let those around you know that you were scratching your head.

Advertisements

Advertisements reach everyone on the server, and are considered In Character. They are a way of advertising your shop or services, for example. Each advertisement costs 25 credits. To create an advertisement, type the following in chat: /adv Get all of your supplies at The Supply Store, located at the bakery!

Radio

In order to use radio chat, you must first purchase a radio from someone. Just ask around. It's a very common item. Once you have a radio, press F3 and change your frequency to something. It can be any number below 999.9 except 0. Once that's set, type the following: /r Roger that. As you can see, radio chat shows up as white text above the normal chat area. Be careful, though. People around you can hear you speak into your radio. Don't let the CPs catch you saying something you shouldn't be saying! Be careful; radios are illegal!

Combine Request

Combine Requests are the Citizens' way of getting the attention of their benefactors. The request will go to every Combine officer and the City Administrator, if present. Crimes should be reported with a Combine Request. Usually, if you make a Combine Request that results in a successful arrest, you will be rewarded. To initiate a Combine Request, type the following in chat: /cr Help! I saw a shooter in the Frontend Hotel on the top floor! You need a Civil Distress Transmitter to make Combine Requests.

Out of Character (OOC)

Out of Character chat, or OOC, is a common way to communicate with everyone on the server. This chat, of course, is considered out of character. (Big surprise.) At times, there may be an OOC Delay that prevents people from using OOC too much. OOC should be used sparingly. If you are near the person you are wishing to talk to, consider Local OOC instead. Alternatively, if you need to contact someone who is not near you, try using a PM.

To talk in OOC, press your normal chat key (default "Y") and type this: // Hello World! We're now talking in OOC! There are a few other ways to talk in OOC. Use the one that's best for you. Instead of // you could use any of the following:

  • ((
  • /ooc
  • [OOC]

Local Out of Character (Local OOC)

Local OOC is just like OOC, except for the fact that it does not reach everyone on the server. It can only be seen to those around you. To talk in local OOC, type this in your chat box: .// Hello!

An alternate method of initiating local OOC, instead of .// is [[

Private Messages (PMs)

Private Messages can be viewed only by the person you are messaging. These messages are considered Out of Character. To PM someone you must have either their first name, nickname, or last name. Capitalization counts. If there are multiple people on with the same first name, use the last name or the nickname. To PM someone, type the following: /pm Johnny I like waffles.

Other Chat Commands

Giving Money

To give someone money, walk up to them and look directly at them. Then, type the following in chat: /givemoney 20 This will give the person you are looking at 20 credits. It's that simple!

Giving Weapons

In order to give a weapon through chat, it must be equipped and selected. It does not need to be unholstered. Once you have it selected, and you are looking at the person you want to give it to, type either of the following in chat:

  • /giveweapon
  • /givegun

Dropping Weapons

Perhaps you would like to drop the weapon you are holding. To do this through chat, you must have it equipped and selected. Then, type either of the following in chat:

  • /dropweapon
  • /dropgun

Changing your Title

When you first arrive in City 45, your title is Citizen. Maybe you would like to run a shop. Let's change your title to Shop Owner. Just type this in chat: /title Shop Owner

Naming Doors

In order to name a door, you must first own it. If you have enough credits, you can do so by looking at it and pressing F4. Then, look at it and type: /doortitle Johnny's Shop

Showing your CID Card

To show your CID card, face someone and type /showcid or hold down C and click on Civil Identification -> Show CID.

Combine Chat Commands

In order to use Combine chat commands, you must be flagged as a CP or the appropriate flag that the command calls for.

Broadcast

This is a command that will let you broadcast what ever is needed to every citizen in the city. This is very important for Judgment Waivers, calling citizens to the Nexus, and for alerting citizens of ration distribution. To use the broadcast command do the following /bc <message> Be warned though if you use it for idiotic reasons and a higher ranking combine catches you, you can be in a deep trouble.

Going on/off duty

There are several commands available to go on or off duty, depending on what you are flagged as. These commands should have been given to you at the time you were flagged. To go off duty while you are on duty, type: /citizen
